The Experience

Dear traveler :), we are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help in our hostel in the center of Dubrovnik Old town. We need someone who is able to commit to at least a 45 days-2 months. I wish I had good things to say, but I don't. I was supposed to stay for 1 month. After one week, I decided to leave with another volunteer who also couldn't stand it. It was obvious to us that it was an unsustainable situation. I do think that this volunteering has potential, if there was more respect for the time of people who are helping out in exchange for a bed. But it's crystal clear that volunteers are being used for free labour. 6 hours a day is fine if there's common sense. Asking volunteers to do the exact same tasks as paid staff for zero remuneration is borderline illegal.
