Utopia Eco Hotel

We're located about 285 Km from Guatemala City. 11 Km from Lanquin and in the Valley of Semuc Champey approx. 3.5 Km from Semuc Champey National Park, one of Guatemala’s hidden treasures. We have about 220 meters of River Frontage along the Cahabón River.
Here is where you will be able to do as much or as little as you like. We are a Family Friendly, Dog Friendly Eco Hotel with a vegetarian Restaurant. Situated on the Cahabón River, which is great for tubing or just relaxing on one of the large river rocks or take a short stroll down the path to the big swimming hole. You will find your home away from home nestled amongst exotic flora and fauna with at least 90 different species of birds to watch while your strolling along the many paths that have been cut though the wild flowers, coffee and cocoa trees. Utopia offers unique natural lodge style accommodation with custom one of a kind art work and furnishing.

You will be living in a remote place in the jungle with a handful of other volunteers, the management and a dozen local workers from the surrounding mayan villages. The atmosphere between the staff is very familiar. Every volunteer gets the chance to put his ideas into the steadily growing Utopia. You can put yourself into it as much or as little as you like. Feel free to participate in gardening, yoga, sports, hiking and many more...

I received a good introduction at the beginning and was able to settle in well. While working in the kitchen, I was constantly supported by the managers, which made communication easier. They were always available to answer questions. The relationship between what I received (food, accommodation, benefits) and the work I had to do was also very fair. I had a great time and felt very comfortable. It's a wonderful, transformative experience to be in this place, surrounded by nature.

Had an amazing month at Utopia!
From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel welcome. The work was more than fair — especially considering how well we were looked after with incredible food and drinks. As a meat eater, I was honestly blown away by how delicious everything was.

We made great friends, spent hours playing in the river, and really enjoyed the slow jungle lifestyle. The hardest part was leaving. Hopefully we’ll be back one day — this place is something special.

We loved our time at Utopia! The surrounding area is gorgeous, with Mayan locals living all around you in the village of Samill. There are lots of places to explore around the river. Semuc is close by.
The hours are very reasonable, we worked 5 hours for 3 days, then had 2 days off. They made sure we had a day off together as a couple. The staff have a good sense of humour and it’s a nice culture. The meals are excellent!
You’ll find yourself feeling very relaxed at Utopia. I really recommend it. The sorts of people who get drawn to volunteer here are lovely, it was sad to leave.

A very good experience. There is a schedule you follow and you have to do your shift so there is no confusion when you have to work. The place is very good and there are a lot if volunteers so you kind of create your own community there.

We did have a small issue with the wifi and it was hard to get to a place with a wifi but other than that everything was great!
