Utopia Eco Hotel

We're located about 285 Km from Guatemala City. 11 Km from Lanquin and in the Valley of Semuc Champey approx. 3.5 Km from Semuc Champey National Park, one of Guatemala’s hidden treasures. We have about 220 meters of River Frontage along the Cahabón River.
Here is where you will be able to do as much or as little as you like. We are a Family Friendly, Dog Friendly Eco Hotel with a vegetarian Restaurant. Situated on the Cahabón River, which is great for tubing or just relaxing on one of the large river rocks or take a short stroll down the path to the big swimming hole. You will find your home away from home nestled amongst exotic flora and fauna with at least 90 different species of birds to watch while your strolling along the many paths that have been cut though the wild flowers, coffee and cocoa trees. Utopia offers unique natural lodge style accommodation with custom one of a kind art work and furnishing.

You will be living in a remote place in the jungle with a handful of other volunteers, the management and a dozen local workers from the surrounding mayan villages. The atmosphere between the staff is very familiar. Every volunteer gets the chance to put his ideas into the steadily growing Utopia. You can put yourself into it as much or as little as you like. Feel free to participate in gardening, yoga, sports, hiking and many more...

A place full of lovely people and animals, I really enjoyed my stay here. This is a little paradise hidden in the middle of the forest, you have a lot of free time to explore the area, or just go down at the river which is 50 meters from the hostel. The shifts are respected, the work is easy, the food is good, and the staff is nice. I highly recommend it if you just want to relax in the middle of nature, thank you so much for having me here :)

Loved my stay at Utopia so much, and chose to extend for a few extra days to explore the beautiful river. Work and schedule is very fair, even on shift scheduled days you have enough time to do your own thing. Would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys a slower pace of life in an abundance of nature. My one note would be to go into the experience in a conscious and mindful awareness of gentrification concepts that you might be exposed to due to the hotel being located in a remote and traditional Mayan community. Miss my Utopia family dearly, hope to be back soon!

I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at Utopia. The surrounding area is beautiful. Pia and the managers are all very sweet and help to make the stay a great time. Dany showed us around the area to the cool spots (if he says wear shoes, listen). I would gladly return to Utopia in a heartbeat. I will cherish my time there forever 🫶🏼

I‘ve stayed in Utopia as a cooking volunteer for one month. My working schedule was as described, so I had 3 days off and then work for 4 days in row. It was a big advantage for me to speak spanish so that I could communicate easily with the kitchen staff. You definitely need to know how to cook, because you are coming up with the menu of the family style dinners and you will lead the kitchen. There is always one woman working with you, so you are never alone, but it is a lot of work with cleaning the dishes by hand and making dinner in busy season for 30+ people. I def learned a lot.
