We run a restaurant and have a big, beautiful garden in the mountainside. At first, it was a bamboo grove ridden with wild brush, but after 10 years of hard work, we were able to transform it into a flourishing flower garden that blooms in every season. By living with me, your Japanese will certainly improve. I can also teach you about gardening and trimming. We can potentially provide various traditional Japanese cultural activities! If that sounds like fun, please send us a message.

My name is Hiring. I live in Kamigori with my husband and a dog. Kamigori lies in the countryside, meaning it is quiet and relaxing. The people here are very kind and willing to share local culture.

Volunteering at Hirin-san’s restaurant was unforgettable.
She works hard to give volunteers real contact with Japanese culture, and both she and her husband welcomed me with warmth and kindness.
The food they prepare is delicious, and the experience feels authentic and deeply meaningful.
Highly recommended for anyone wishing to understand Japanese society respectfully. Knowing Japanese makes it even more rewarding.

One month that changed my heart.
In a place that now feels like home, I found love, warmth, and a new family.
Hirin and her husband made me feel like a daughter, not a guest.
I lived authentic experiences, embraced a beautiful culture, and fulfilled a small dream: practicing kendo with a special teacher.
But more than anything, I received a pure, sincere love that I will carry with me forever.
Not everything can be put into words…
But the gratitude I feel runs deep.

I had a wonderful time in Kamigori, learning so much about Japanese culture and many other things. Thanks to Hirin-san I experienced activities like kendo, wadaiko, calligraphy, tea ceremony and met so many kind locals. I always felt like at home and enjoyed working in the restaurant (the meals were very delicious and healthy!) and helping out in the garden. Hirin san is working hard and is organising a lot to make everybody feel comfortable. In my free time, I loved cycling near the rice fields. I’ll always be grateful for this experience ❤️

Staying with Hiring-san has been a truly wonderful experience. I’m deeply grateful for her kindness, patience, and warm hospitality throughout my time here. This was my first and only volunteer experience in Japan, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. I feel incredibly lucky to have met her and shared this time together, she truly made me feel at home.

Hiri-San ha hecho que esta experiencia sea inolvidable, llena de aprendizajes que llevaré conmigo. Llegué a su casa en busca de un crecimiento personal pero obtuve eso y más. Desde mi llegada buscó introducirme a la cultura local con diversas actividades, lo cual hace que no sea un simple voluntariado, si no, algo que nutre el alma. Fue una persona empática, comprensiva, paciente, atenta y amable , a pesar de que mi inglés en un inicio era muy básico y era difícil mi comunicación me hizo sentir cómodo y seguro. Agradezco mucho su hospitalidad, es una persona de respetar. Extrañare Kamigori!
