The Old Church of Urquhart

Great chance to work at a rural place close to the sea and the mountains being offered from time to time to accompany us on our outings as to learn plenty about Scotland, this area known as Malt Whisky Country with plenty stone circles, castles, distilleries and other special places to discover; close to Findhorn Foundation as well.

We usually work with you together and we usually enjoy homemade lunch each day with you or get it prepared for you.

We love to share our experiences as a German and a Polish falling in love with Scotland more than 25 years ago and help you in any possible way to digg into our beloved chosen country of residence. You might like to join us on some of our outings incl. mushroom hunting, farmer market shopping, beach strolling, church services etc. You will be part of our life, a very diverse life of two guys and you might be as close as you wish at whilst having at the same time your own private space, a fully equipped studio in the back of the church at ground floor.

Kris and Andreas were so friendly and kind, it almost felt like I was visiting distant relatives. The tasks are just the usual cleaning and maintenance for a b&b, same thing with gardening. Working hours and free days are very respected and you can plan in advance with them. If you love being outdoors, gardening (that’s important!) and saying in a quiet and relaxing place, this is it! Kris and Andreas took me to day-trips around Scotland, and they were so welcoming and nice about just opening their day to day life to me. I really appreciate how included I felt. It was an amazing experience♥️

I had a really good time in Urquhart! Andreas and Kris were always welcoming and very friendly. The place is quiet and after work you have time to wander around, by walking or bike.
I was happy to join Andreas and Kris for Sunday church, the Highland games or trip to the Abbey. Thank you and I hope you will have the same good experience as me:)

This was my first volunteering experience and I enjoyed it.
It was a beautiful experience. The place is gorgeous and the accommodation provided is excellent. What stood out the most for me were the meals after work (great food and conversations) and the peaceful atmosphere. I totally recommend it—if you’re looking to disconnect, this is the perfect place.
Thank you for everything, Kris and Andreas!

I'm very glad to have picked this volunteering place as my first experience. Andreas and Kris did a great job at including me in their lifes (if I wanted to), and were always clear about my current objectives at my job. The given room was also a joy with a special shout out to the shower. I'll miss that shower. Anyways if you are interested in the areas lore and like good food, then I can only recommend applying for the old church of urquhart :)

It was my first experience volunteering and it was totally worthy. Kris and Andreas are amazing hosts and their home is simply gorgeous. They are always welcoming, open to help and willing to show you the best face of Scotland. Andreas is an amazing storyteller and Kris is the best chef ever. Also the acomodation is great and you have time and space for yourself, networking or explore the surroundings. Thank you for making it so memorable! Totally recomended.
