Tanzania With Kenny

Building Brighter Futures in Arusha, Tanzania

In the vibrant heart of Arusha, Tanzania, life abounds with beauty, culture, and resilience. Families tirelessly strive to provide for their children, often depending on farming, tourism, or small businesses for their livelihoods. Despite their unwavering determination, many faces persistent challenges in accessing quality education, reliable childcare, and essential support for women and vulnerable children.

Our mission is to create opportunities that enable every child and woman to thrive. Our efforts are concentrated in four key areas:

1. Education Support
Children attending government schools often face overcrowded classrooms and limited resources. By bridging the gap between government and private institutions, we provide learning materials, mentorship, and academic support to help every child achieve their potential.

2. Daycare and Early Childhood Development
Reliable childcare remains a significant challenge for many working parents. We offer nurturing environments where young children receive care, nutrition, and early education, establishing a strong foundation for future success.

3. Women Empowerment
Women form the backbone of Tanzanian communities, yet many lack access to opportunities and financial independence. Through training programs, workshops, and support networks, we equip women with skills, foster small business development, and empower them to create brighter futures for themselves and their families.

4. Child Care and Orphan Support
For children who have lost their parents or come from vulnerable backgrounds, we provide not just shelter but also love, education, and a sense of belonging. Our aim is to ensure every child grows up with hope and access to opportunities.

Why Tanzania ?
Location:
Arusha is a vibrant city in northern Tanzania, often called the “safari capital of the world.” It sits at the foot of Mount Meru and is close to many famous destinations like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Mount Kilimanjaro.

People & Culture:
• Home to many ethnic groups including Maasai, Meru, Chagga, and others, making it rich in traditions.
• Swahili is widely spoken, along with English.
• Locals are warm, friendly, and community-oriented.

Climate:
• Arusha has a mild, pleasant climate because of its altitude (around 1,400m above sea level).
• Days are usually warm; nights can get cool, so bring a light jacket.
• Rainy seasons: March–May (long rains) and Nov–Dec (short rains).

Economy & Daily Life:
• Agriculture is the backbone (coffee, maize, vegetables, bananas).
• Tourism is a major industry, with many visitors passing through for safaris and trekking.
• Bustling local markets (like Central Market and Maasai Market) showcase fresh produce, crafts, and clothing.

What Volunteers Should Know:
• Respect local customs: greet elders politely (e.g., Shikamoo).
• Dress modestly, especially in rural and community settings.
• Be open to trying local dishes like ugali, nyama choma, and fresh tropical fruits.
• Transport: dala-dalas (minibuses), bodabodas (motorbikes), and taxis are common.
• Safety: Arusha is lively but keep an eye on personal belongings, especially in crowded places.

Fun Facts:
• Known as the “Geneva of Africa because it hosts the East African Community headquarters.
• It’s the gateway to some of the world’s most iconic wildlife experiences.
• You can see both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro on a clear day.

Note that:
Arusha is not just a place to work, it’s a place to connect with people, learn from diverse cultures, and explore nature at its finest. Keep an open heart, and you’ll have an unforgettable experience!

This experience was better than I could have ever imagined! The hospitality of both Kenny and Everlight was perfect, we felt extremely welcomed and looked after over the entire trip. We also got to explore Arusha with host Kenny, by visiting local attractions, markets and shops.

The school Kenny works with is such an amazing organisation and was an experience I will never forget.

My friend and I that completed this World Packers experience feel so lucky that we found Kenny’s page!

Our Stay with Kenny was beyond anything we could have imagined! From the moment we met him it instantly felt like a safe welcoming home. Kenny was attentive with all our needs, and made sure our safety was a top priority. Everlight was a gem, she cooked (we helped!), she helped with our washing and was just an all rounder. We visited the school each day, which was a beautiful experience, which we also found the strong connection Kenny has built with this community of people already. We also got taken around to local markets and restaurants to experience the local culture. Highly Recommend. ❤️

Kenny is a genuine and spontaneous person who cares about every detail of your stay. You’ll live at his home, enjoying delicious local dishes prepared by Heavenlight, his trusted housekeeper. Volunteering takes place in orphanages and schools in Arusha, offering a chance to experience real Tanzania. As Kenny says, he doesn’t let you visit Tanzania, he makes you live it. The program is flexible (go with the flow), and with him you can also arrange safaris, excursions, and discover authentic local places. Truly recommended!

Meeting Kenny and his triends has been one of the best thing that happened so far.
My mum and I lived next to the orphanage, hosted by Kenny's friends: we created a deep bond and telt like part of the family.
These people, the kids and the places have stolen our heart.
Kenny is an amazing guy: sociable, reliable, always available and always checking if everything is going good.
At the orphanage you take care of the kids, following their needs and making them feel loved.
I have a lot to say, but too little space, so feel free to text me.
Overall, a life-changing experience ❤️
