Sunflower House - Ha Giang Loop

By volunteering here, you will experience vietnamese culture in its fullest. We love to share our foods and traditions with you and take you in as part of the family. You can explore the beautiful town of Ha Giang and get to know many of travelers entering our hostel.

This is a family owned business and not corporate. We are super friendly and eager to learn more english. We are young, easy going, and love to share our culture and values. Other staff are very upbeat and hard working people who are easy to get along with. We also have a friendly and cute dog named Tiger who loves to play!

I did not get the chance to volunteering at sunflower house. They cancelled my application 3 days before the start of my 2 weeks stay. They told me they were overloaded. It is understandable, but i wish they had handle the situation better by proposing alternatives. Instead, they just stopped answering my messages...

Although the experience with LOOP as a trip was incredible, the volunteering was disappointing due to a lack of communication and organization. There was no clarity about tasks, schedules, or expectations.

Arrangements were made mainly via WhatsApp, but were not correctly recorded in the app, and we were suddenly informed that we would need to leave before the agreed-upon date.

Activities were limited to interacting with guests and encouraging only positive reviews. I also experienced food poisoning during my stay, as did other guests and volunteers.

Regarding the food issue, not all guests or volunteers were affected, and you told me yourself that your stomach problems started after drinking egg coffee at a nearby shop.
According to your registration, your stay ended on January 20, but you left on January 25, meaning you stayed five extra days beyond the registered period.

The Ha Giang Loop is an incredible experience, one that we didn't have as volunteers. The experience we had as volunteers at Sunflower House was very different and quite sad.
There is poor communication between the owners and the volunteers. I applied as a content creator, but without prior notice and without any explanation, I was required to interact with guests, and that became the job. There is no schedule, no defined work days, no fixed hours, and no explanation of what needs to be done. I had the worst episode of food poisoning of my life, as other guest and volunteers in the same time

Hello Giovani,Thank you for your feedback. I would like to clarify a few points.During your stay, my grandfather suffered a stroke, and I spent most of my time at the hospital taking care of him. At the same time, Vietnam was going through an election period, and international entry was restricted, so we had very few guests and limited work available. You asked to help with other tasks, and since we were often away, I asked you to welcome guests and help request reviews.

I had an incredible experience volunteering here! The host family and the staff are genuinely some of the nicest people I’ve ever met — warm, welcoming, and always making sure you feel at home. The work itself is very easy-going, mostly chatting with guests and helping maintain the relaxed, family-style vibe that makes this place so special.

I even got to do the Loop as soon as I arrived, which was an unforgettable experience and such a great way to start my stay. The location is perfect if you’re looking for an authentic Vietnamese experience in a quieter part of Hà Giang.
