OSG Eco-farm and Creative Hub
OSG eco-farm and Creative Hub helps volunteers to share their skills and knowledge with local communities through our programs and activities. We aim to create a meningful impact bg helping women, boys and girls in the community. At the main time, we are establishing an eco-farm to demonstrate to the local community how to engage in eco-friendly farming practices. Aiming to reduce the plastic consumption and supporting the local community.
Activities and Shift:
The normal.schedule.would be:
8 AM - 12 PM Volunteering work on eco garden.
12 PM-3 PM lunch and free time to fill in freely.
3 PM - 5 PM Immersing in local culture and meeting local community members (Events like English, dance, craft, etc)
Attend/join community or cultural events in between or in the evening, depends on the situation or what is happening. Each day timing can differ depending on local events or planned activities with community, we suggest volunteers to expand their flexibility and ability to adapt whenever the schedule needs to be adjusted due to certain circumstances.
Rules:
At OSG you can feel free to be yourself, we welcome.everybody. But do note that our organization is located at rural Moslem community, we suggest volunteer to dress smart casual whenever appear in public.
As for couple volunteer, we strongly suggest declaring to the community that you are married despite the status of the relationship.
Omah Sinau Gesang (OSG) envisions a sustainable community fostered through permaculture and creative education at its eco-farm and creative space. Our mission is to cultivate critical thinking and curiousity among the youth, empowering them to cherish the natural environment for their own well-being and to foster inclusivity, climate resilience, and sustainability within their community.
Located in Lumajang, East Java, Omah Sinau (OSG) translated to "a home.of life learninf." Covering an area of 1.790.90 square kilometers with a population of 1.104.759 (as of June 2016), Lumajang boast abundant natural resources, including 31 rivers, 56 waterfalls, and the towering Semeru volcano. The region's fertile land yields rice, bananas, vegetables, and fresh goat milk, while its artisans craft jewellery renowned worldwide. Despite this natural wealth, many residenta face challenges, evidenced by high rates of child stunting (23.8% in 2022), child marriage, and poverty, coupled with a low human resource index ranking (35 out of 38 regencies in East Java).
Aligned with the vision of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, OSG eco-farm pioneers sustainable, chemical-free agriculture practices to engage younger generations in farming. By employing permaculture principles, we enhance soil quality over time, boosting productivity without reliance on costly chemical fertilizers. In contrast to conventional farming methods, which degrade soil and inflate costs, our approach promotes long-term sustainability and productivity
Completing the eco-farm, OSG creative space hosta workshops and events to educate the community on nutrition, sustainable living, and climate resilience. Given the prevalence of misinformation, particularly among young parents and children, we strive to counteract unhealthy dietary choices influenced by advertisements. Moreover, our commitment to inclusivity and gender equality permeates all activities, fostering collaboration with local and international volunteers and laying the groundwork for community-based tourism initiatives.
