Nagarjuna KMC

Situated in the beautiful English countryside, Our Centre offers Buddhist meditation retreats, classes and study programmes for everyone including our volunteers.
Our Cafe, grounds, classes and retreats are popular so we invite you to come and be part of our team here at Thornby Hall.

Our community and Centre staff do all we can to welcome you and it isn't long before our volunteers start to feel at home. The spiritual programme is suitable for everyone... and you can learn enough to grow your spiritual practice or start one if you wish. It's always a warm welcome and we're always a little sad to see you go.

I had a really good experience: the place is beautiful and the atmosphere very welcoming. I truly enjoyed meeting volunteers from all over the world, it was very enriching. The staff was kind, helpful and patient, even though my English is not perfect. I mainly worked at the bar, which I really liked. As a suggestion, I think it would be useful to check volunteers’ profiles more carefully and improve the food a little. Overall, a very positive experience that I recommend!

My short stay at the Centre was a wonderful experience. Every single person there, from Sian, Amanda, the managers like Jason to all the rest of the volunteers were extremely kind, welcoming and respectful all the time. The working hours were respected every day as well as the free days. The building itself and the surrounding areas look like they are part of a fairytale. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking forward to develop new skills, meet kind souls and learn more about Buddhism and meditation. I will be forever grateful and treasure all of the memories I made.

I’ve had an incredible time at Nagarjuna Kadampa! Everybody was very welcoming and kind and I was able to meet a lot of fellow volunteers who quickly became real friends. The hours were always respected and the work was very varied. I worked a lot in the kitchen which was a great experience and I learned a lot. The grounds are amazing and very relaxing. There is not a lot to do in the surrounding area, but there are some villages in walking distance with a shop and pub which are nice to visit on your days off. I would highly recommend volunteering here :)

Looking back on my time at the meditation centre, it all feels like a dream that passed in the blink of an eye. I still remember the drive there—the golden wheat fields lining the road, the tall trees stretching towards the sky—it felt as if I were escaping the real world and entering a hidden paradise. And in many ways, it truly was a utopia nestled among the golden fields. Here, I experienced the calm of the English countryside and encountered so much kindness and warmth from the people around me. I think I’ll always remember the peaceful afternoons, and the smiling faces of my friends.
