Le Plus Haut Mas

Our house, made of stone, was built in 1853. It is surrounded by many ornamental dry gardens, that we created from A to Z.
It is located in a hilly landscape alternating between forest and scrubland.
Around the house, you will find many paths for beautiful walks in nature.
We have a « terrain de pétanque », where you can play or we can play together.

The village in which we live is located 10 kms away from Uzès, the closest main town, which is really beautiful, with old buildings made of stone, it’s Duché (château) from the XIth century. Following this link, you will see more about Uzès : https://www.uzes-pontdugard.com/la-destination/les-incontournables/uzes-cite-toscane/
The region itself is magnificent with many beautiful and interesting places to visit, among which the Pont du Gard.

From our village, Belvezet, you will need to go to Uzès to find buses that can take you to different places around.
To go to Uzès from Belvezet, there is a system of carpool. We also sometimes go to Uzès and could take you there.

We are a couple, restoring an old house. We also do a lot of gardening, creating dry ornamental gardens all around the house. We do all the work by ourselves. We know some techniques and also learn according to what we need. We recently created a vegetable garden and are therefore able to eat our own vegetables during summer and beginning of autumn. Due to volunteer cancellation, we are opening our calendar from May 25th to June 7th. We really need reliable and responsible volunteers for this period. All other dates are full (if other volunteers don't cancel their stay with us). If you would like to join us, we will be very happy to welcome you.

What an incredible experience. I absolutely loved the time I spent with Clémentine and Manuel at Le Plus Haut Mas. Working hours were respected, the tasks were easy to complete, and the work always varied. I learned a lot about using a cement mixer. It was rewarding to see the progress that was made in just three weeks time. I was thankful to be able to practice French. Free days were spent wandering around flea markets and exploring public forests. I would happily return.

I didn’t have a good experience with this host, I was berated for eating a second piece of fruit for breakfast and told not to ask the other volunteer questions about what to eat. (I would have happily bought my own food). I had safety concerns because I am prior military and am “by the book” when it comes to safety. The space was dusty and could be dangerous for the lungs but we were not given ppe until I requested we mask up and all they had were surgical masks, aspestos?I was approved for safestay and I’m grateful. This was my first worldpackers experience and I regret choosing this host.

Clémentine & Manuel replied

1st bad experience in 3 years.
She doesn’t respect the home rules. Thinks she is in a hotel. Helps herself with food that’s not included in the 3 meals. Doesn’t help for preparing meals but waits on the sofa until it’s ready. Never a please or thank you.
Without mentioning the 4 hours she made us waste by waiting for her in the car because she didn’t follow the instructions we gave her about coming to the meeting point.
A pure disaster.
Not the Worldpackers spirit.
Of course no aspestos here 😊

Absolutely wonderful hosts and people, Clementine and Manuel made me feel very comfortable and welcome as soon as I arrived.
The work was super interesting and varied, we mixed cement, put down floors, filled and plastered walls, gardened, and so on.
We had breakfast lunch and dinner together, and also would join Clementine and Manuel going to the local farmers market, flea market, and a couple of times to Uzes.
Loved loved loved my time there and would definitely volunteer again if possible, hopefully next time my French will be better. 😁

I stayed with Clémentine and Manuel for three weeks. They are kind and generous people and I really enjoyed the time we shared. While there I worked on restoring parts of the house or in the garden. Clémentine and Manuel put so much time and care into each project, making everything look finished and beautiful. At times it felt like an honour to watch them work, and I’m glad to have been able to contribute. I learned a great deal from both of them. In my spare time I enjoyed going on hikes with other volunteers, as well as exploring nearby places like Uzès, Nîmes and Pont Du Gard.

Merci
