Kergohy

Kergohy alpaca farm is on the edge of a village and is a peaceful place with a small wood and a stream running through the land. There are lots of birds here and it’s a very rare day that has no birdsong, even in winter.

You'll have the unforgettable experience of spending time in day-to-day work with the alpacas as a part of the 2 and 4 legged family for however long you are here.

This is a working farm and there is always maintenance work to be done – fencing, tree clearing and bridge building are some of the recent projects. There is also some building work on old farm buildings which are being restored and repurposed.

The language of the farm is English, although I can speak French.

Work is not hard, but it can be physical - sensible working clothes are essential, including a waterproof jacket. Wellies and gloves are provided.

Volunteers are treated as part of the family and have their own bedroom and bathroom. Meals are eaten together - and clearing up is done together as well! You will be well-fed - I like to cook a variety of dishes, which would not be suitable for restricted diets, such as vegetarian/vegan, gluten/lactose intolerance or religious obligations such as kosher or halal. For health and safety reasons, the whole farm is a 'no smoking/vapeing' area. I like to show visitors this wonderful corner of the world and days out when essential animal work is done are all part of the experience. You'd also be encouraged to explore the area on your own and a bike is available for anyone who'd like to explore the cycling routes of Brittany. Please note: France does not recognise the concept of digital nomad and it is not permitted to work like this in France.

I can't find the words to describe how meaningful this experience has been for me. Mo and Stuart are the most inspiring, creative and loving people I've met in my life. They have so many stories to tell, they are very patient with explaining how everything works and so nice regarding work-rest balance. You will eat delicious food because both of them are great cooks. I am glad that this was my first volunteering experience, couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you both again! And to you, the person thinking of applying, do it. You will have a great time!!

I had the best time with Stewart and Mo, they are excellent hosts. Getting to know the alpacas are fun and you will never have a dull moment, Stewart and Mo are great conversationalist. I would recommend this to anyone. I learned a lot of new skills including building, spinning yarn and much much more!

My stay with Mo and Stuart was the most fulfilling and enriching experience I could've asked for!!! We fed and cleaned up after the animals each morning, and afternoons were filled with various other tasks (where I learned a lot of new skills!)
Mo and Stuart are both wonderful teachers and kind, generous hosts. Besides learning lots about alpaccas, the few weeks spent with them taught me lots about the world as well - agriculture, sustainability, politics, culture, food. the time flew right by. Thank you both!

I cannot recommend this place. I planned to stay two weeks but left early due to how I was treated.
After finishing the tasks on the first day, I decided to rest because of a headache. At dinner, Mo spoke to me in a very rude and condescending way, accusing me of “vanishing” without communicating enough, even though I thought the work was done. When I explained how I felt, she continued with personal and unnecessary comments, and it was clear she didn’t care that I was unwell. I felt extremely uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disrespected, so I decided to leave early.

I had an exceptionally good experience at Kergohy. Mo and Stuart are wonderful hosts and you immediately feel welcome.
The animals are absolutely adorable and the natural surroundings bring a lot of peace and quiet. In general, you get into a state of relaxation very quickly here thanks to the deceleration during the days- without ever getting bored. The work is fun and you learn a lot (they like to teach and are very patient about it). I had a wonderful time that just flew by.
