Imaginary

We are starting up a new hostel in June with a concept of a social hostel where we organise events and make sure everyone is having a good time, both guests and volunteers. Also, we have a bar in the common area now :)

We offer our volunteers free accommodation, free food, free pub crawls (that we run) and also discounts on out hostels' bars.

We run many hostels in Tallinn. At the moment we have another social hostel and during summertime around 10-15 volunteers usually. Regarding staff, there are people who come for a month (ideally the minimum time) and many stay for a more extended period.

I really enjoyed my time at Imaginary! Polina, other staff and volunteers were all amazing and made me feel so welcome. The cleaning tasks were simple/easy to understand, and there was a good balance of working and time off.
While I was there the owner was working on the guest rooms; because of this sometimes there was extra work to clean up after him that had to be completed within a regular cleaning shift, making for an occasionally stressful environment. The general offsite manager would watch the cameras and comment on things like cleaning and volunteer dinners. Otherwise I enjoyed it!

Great experience! The cleaning work is simple and the other volunteers and the staff at Imaginary are incredibly welcoming. Shout out to Polina, she is an amazing manager; super friendly and knowledgeable.
While the work is easy, the owner and offsite manager can sometimes make the work environment hard through a combination of laziness and bad management skills.
Note - the cameras around the hostel are very actively monitored, to the point of an offsite manager commenting on "not enough people being at dinner" (not relevant to the volunteer work). There is also sometimes bed bug problems.

The other volunteers were simply amazing. Polina made me feel welcome and integrated. It felt easy to talk to her about the work when there was anything on my mind. This is a contrast to the relationship to the owner of the Hostel. Thoughts were often dismissed with him which sometimes made work difficult, but thanks to Polina I managed. Also the included food means that one volunteer (during the shift) has to cook dinner for everyone else (not on Fri/Sat!). There was food in the back and a 10€ budget for extras which surprisingly was enough. The staff room wasn't the cleanliest, it was fine.

My six-week stay at Imaginary Hostel in wonderful, Tallinn was great! Polina was helpful from our first call while I was in Brazil. I met many people, significantly improved my English, and loved the city. The job is (3 days/week) and you can learn in two or three days. The staff is always ready to assist. I continued my remote work easily thanks to the dedicated workspace. There are dinners and great weekend outings. I'd absolutely return. A big thank you again to Polina for everything!
