Help Restoring 50 Acre Degraded Hill - Rainforest Protectors Volunteer Basecamp

Because our project and volunteer base camp is a perfect spot to relax in the middle of a jungle. YOUR HOME AWAY HOME IN SRI LANKA. Because we have fantastic people and beautiful souls committed to the cause of restoring a 50 acre degraded mountain that was burnt down twice every year and by doing so to improve water security and improve biodiversity. Also because you get to live in rural Sri Lanka away from touristic busy expensive locations and to experience local cuisine cooked by a one of the poorest (underprivileged) lady from the village who makes a living because of you.

Our project is a part of wider mission such as Bonn challenge and SDG targets including decade for ecosystem restoration. By this project we address several SDGs among them are some critical components of SDG.

Participants not only get to know basics of restoration but learn about different ecosystems. They will help reforest this mountain while working with locals side by side. They will also give back to the project and community dependent by being part of this.

The place you stay is inside a forest and you will live there with wildlife within it. Anyone who loves forest and wildlife and rural living while experiencing Sri Lankan culture, this is the best place :)

Its the most flexible project you will find in Sri Lanka where you are only needed to work 3 hours in the field in the morning and maybe 1 or two hours of work around the house which is very relaxing and easy. Wednesdays and Sundays are off days where we could make it a lot of fun by taking you on many river baths, waterfall trips, hikes and even safari's (very responsible ones) if that is your thing. Or you can even just relax on these days listening to birds, monkeys and sometimes elephants :)

I am an environmental consultant working with many international NGOs and development partners. However my passion is reforestation and working with community to restore degraded areas. I love planting and forests. Our staff are local university students and a few from the community. All of them are very nice and very welcoming. Every volunteer will be treated with respect and care. We take care of every volunteer with special attention to their specific needs as much as possible. Volunteers will find that they make it their second home and home away from home. Often the staff become their family in Sri Lanka.

I was staying in the rainforest protection camp for 10 days. You can really connect with nature. The work in the site is very rewarding and time flies by. The food is amazing cooked by lovely Acca. You can also meet a lot of different travellers from all around the world.

This experience was a huge pleasure for us. We feel like we have found a little family far from home with Jay, Methma and the other volunteers. It was a real and profound exploration of the ecosystems, wildlife and culture of Sri Lanka. They always tried to help and teach us, putting their heart in everything they do. We are forever grateful for this experience and we hope to return in a couple years to see how the forest and project has grown!

My girlfriend and I have spend one week with Jayantha and his team, working on the rainforest restoration project. And…what an experience ! We really enjoyed every moment, spending time in the rainforest working on the project, removing invasive plants, and working on making a better place to live for everyone.

Being part of that project it’s being part of a big family. And we are really grateful of every moment that we spent with the team 😊

So, thank you very much Jayantha and the team.

I stayed one week in the Rainforest Protection Camp and it was really fun and educative. The work is not too hard and it changes over time. All the people who work here do it with passion that’s what I loved about it.
You can escape from the busy touristic places and be in the nature all day while contributing to a better environment! I would definitely come again🌳🤎
