We’re in a perfect location—near a park and not far from the city center, but away from the crowds. Thanks to our location near Kyoto Station, it's perfect for day trips. Our staff speaks both English and Japanese so if you want to get a great Kyoto experience we’d love to have you on our team.

We’re a small, friendly hostel in Kyoto that values community, cleanliness, and genuine cultural exchange. Our team is made up of both local Japanese staff and international members who love sharing tips about Kyoto with travelers from around the world. You can expect fair scheduling with possible paid extra work, clear communication and supportive enviroment. You’ll have a comfortable bed and access to a fully equipped kitchen during your stay. Check out our rooftop with a great view on the city. We have a great common areas where you can relax, study, work or just enjoy the time here.

Had a lovely stay at GHKI. The staff was so friendly and funny, I really enjoyed talking and working with them.
I did both cleaning and reception hours, so got to see different aspects of the job, which I really enjoyed.
The Guesthouse is basically 20min away from main attractions/areas by electric bike ⚡and the city has plenty of biking roads. I mainly used this means of transport which I loved 😍.

Thanks a lot to Essam, Mika and Naoko for making my stay a comfortable one. Hope to come back and say hello one day!

I had a good time at Kyoto Guesthouse Inn. The guesthouse is located 25 Minutes by walk from the Kyoto Station, in a quite area, you could also reach by bus. The team is lovely and made me feel welcomed directly. Working tasks are depending of the length of your stay (staying over a month= reception work/Cleaning). Since I stayed only 1 Months I only had cleaning task to do. You will work 4 hours a day/ 5 days a week and get a free bed/ coffee, tea in exchange. The cleaning consists out of precise cleaning and bedmaking. I would recommend the hostel, if you are looking for a lovely team.

When I set foot in the hostel the first time I didn't know what to expect. A building hidden in a in a lesser known corner of the city, perhaps I was afraid. But from the first day the staff turned out to be exceptional not only from a professional point of view but above all from a human point of view. From the first day they helped me to integrate and did everything possible to match my hours
with those of the school I attend. I found some very open people mentally with whom it was a pleasure to collaborate. All working conditions established before arriving have been met. ESSAM IS AMAZING!

I had a great time at Guest House Kyoto Inn. If you do your tasks carefully and try to contribute to the hostel, the host Essam will be very grateful and helps you to have a nice time in Kyoto.
I felt welcomed and respected, but helpers who do not do the tasks carefully, may have a different experience.

It is mainly 4 hours of work 5 days a week as a group of 3 to 4 people. This includes about 2 to 3 hours of cleaning and 1 to 2 hours of reception. If you stay more than 4 weeks it is likely that you do less cleaning and more reception work.

I spent two months at GHKI and I had a really good time. Essam, Naoko and the whole team are exceptional, welcoming and always supportive.
I feel really lucky with the others co-volunteers. Good moments, made plans together and they made this experience so special.
The work itself is normal hostel tasks with different shifts. The hostel is located in a quiet area near a beautiful park (Umekōji Park) and train station.
I’m definitely going to miss it!!
