Cabbage Hostel

Cabbage Hostel is a unique 90-year-old mansion in a tranquil area of Belgrade. Here we welcome guests to our cosy home - we take pride in maintaining a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
We see our hostel is more than just a place to stay. It's a haven that we've lovingly nurtured, ensuring that every detail is taken care of with utmost care, so our guests can relax, work, meet new friends, and just have fun.
At Cabbage Hostel, we are humbled by the magic that our guests bring to our space. It's not just about us creating a welcoming environment; it's the incredible people who choose to stay with us that make our hostel truly special. Their stories, laughter, and shared joy are the greatest rewards for our hard work. We hope you would like to join us on our mission of making a place like this happen.

We are a team of two people. Dima is handling everything on site while Peter caters for all the things digital. Both of us value the comfort of our guests greatly and try to ensure the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the hostel. We tend to do things 200% and care deeply about anything we put our minds into. and our hearts. We hope our volunteers can share our passion and see anything they do in the hostel as not just chores. We're open to suggestions and initiatives as well as developing fruitful cooperations further.

Incredible hostel, beautiful place. My experience there was one of the best I've ever had. Thanks to Dimitri for letting me be a part of the hostel. I should point out that the hostel's breakfasts are some of the best I've ever had. Thank you so much for everything! They're the best! I'll be back someday! Спасибо!!!!

Cabbage Hostel was conflicting. The city of Belgrade is okay and the experience is not bad at all, but is not great either. Communication online was great, settting expectations beforehand, they even agree to keep my dates which I'm grateful for. On site is we're things get complicated, is a tug of war on expectations one day you're doing to little on your tasks the other your doing great. "You better know how to do this task, even tho I've not explained to you how to do it properly and if you make a mistake I'm gonna shame you for it, if you do it correctly great here's a cookie!"

I worked for two weeks until the owner, gave to me this kind of a contract that i should sign. After reading it there was some point that it wasn't clear for me so i told him that i didn't feel comfortable signing this. So this person started to behave like a child, not letting me talk, treating me like a fool for being the only one who has complained about this. And even when he should had gave this to me the first day he tried to make me feel like the guilty in he situation. So after all of this, he kicked me out, in the night. I don't recommend this place, it was very disrespectful.

Sorry we didn't give you the contract on the 1st day, but we’d like to clarify some facts. You didn’t work for 2 weeks, and it took you two days to review the contract. You refused to sign over a requirement to share details with the Ministry of Tourism and police, which is mandatory. 2 managers explained this and offered to adjust the wording, but you still declined. Since refusing legal registration is suspicious, we couldn’t keep you as a volunteer. This happened at 6PM, not at night.

I had a great time at Cabbage hostel! The vibe is nice, the place is clean with a great location. Volunteers have their own room, which helps you disconnect after shifts. Breakfast is amazing (my fav part of the day ❤️)

There are two shifts: morning (9 am - 3 pm), which is busier with check-outs, and afternoon (6 pm - 12 am), which is more relaxed (you have time for your meals during the shifts ;) ).Dima, the host, is super fun but very detail-oriented, so you must stay on top of tasks. Iliana, the receptionist, is super friendly 😊

Ps: Write me if you want to know more about my experience ❤

The hostel is a nice place with spaces for socializing, and the guests and volunteers are friendly. However, I had to end my volunteering due to issues with the owner, who showed a hostile attitude towards both volunteers and guests. When I tried to set boundaries regarding the treatment I received, I faced yelling and further disrespect, making it impossible to continue. Additionally, the working conditions differ from what is stated: instead of 30 hours per week, 36 are required, which is misleading. While the place is pleasant, the poor management of the owner overshadows the experience.

Dear Valentina, Thank you for your feedback and for noting the friendly atmosphere at the hostel. We regret that your experience didn’t meet expectations. To clarify, each 6-hour shift includes a 1-hour meal break, aligning with agreed working hours. We strive to maintain a welcoming environment, as reflected in our positive reviews and volunteers who often extend their stays. We’re sorry if our communication felt hostile; this was never our intention. Wishing you the best in your future travels
