Beechwood House

We are offering a home environment, with your own room.
We have welcomed many students from many countries over the years and offer a friendly, family environment - our kids might come and go as they go to and from university.
You might choose us because you want a home from home and to spend time with a family who is of mixed cultural backgrounds and loves to host. If we can we will try to show you some of Scotland - or if time doesn't allow, we'll recommend things!
Our home is well suited for walking into the town centre (15mins) but also for just taking off on walks and hikes in nature - we have farms, hillsides and forests all around us.

We are a couple with 3 kids, the youngest of whom is 18 and is currently away travelling. We have hosted a number of students while the kids have been growing up and we love the cultural exchange. You can expected to be treated as part of the family and will be living in our home.

I felt really welcomed from the very first moment. Fiona and her family are such lovely and kind people. Working in the garden felt like therapy to me, and I truly enjoyed every day I spent there. The exchange of experiences was amazing, and I learned so much during these two weeks. I’m really grateful for this time and I definitely recommend the experience!

This was probably my best experience on this platform so far. Fiona and Pieter are a very special couple who made us feel at home and were always attentive to detail. The first day was my birthday, and they organized a surprise party. Fiona made my favorite dish, which meant she spent hours in the kitchen. Plus, I've never practiced English so much because they work from home, and the contact is truly constant—wonderful!
I feel genuinely grateful for this experience.

I sincerely enjoyed my stay at Beechwood House, Fiona and Pieter are really lovely hosts! The work is quite physical but very satisfying and you get plenty of help from the family. You have loads of free time, which I mostly spent in the parks and at the river. Also all of Scottlands bigger cities are super easy to visit from here. Since you will be the only Worldpacker, you should be able to enjoy your own company from time to time, which worked out very well for me.

Jonathan,
Thanks for your review - we really enjoyed having you to stay too and our chats over dinner and hearing about your time in the Hebrides. You achieved a massive amount in our garden - we're really grateful for your hard work.
All the best,

Volunteering at Fiona & Pieter’s home was such a blessing. The two and their family are so kind, welcoming & hospitable. I was here over Easter & felt so at home during my stay which was lovely!
The work & hours were just right, flexible, and in the morning, leaving the afternoon free.
The area is walkable to main shopping streets and very peaceful & safe which was great for runs and walks alone. It’s also worth mentioning that the two are excellent cooks, and have a wonderful kitchen to use.
Overall I loved my time here, such a great experience which I’d definitely recommend! 💙🤍

It was great to have you as part of the busy house over Easter - lots of fun! (You have just totally boosted Pieter's ego calling him a good cook!)
Thanks for all your work - much appreciated ;-)
