I loved this place, the people, even the work. Chris especially was wonderful showing all the volunteers beautiful places and experiences. The work is quick and efficient, and allows plenty of time to appreciate the surroundings, conversations with other volunteers from around the world, or whatever else one might want to do. I definitely recommend this experience! ❤️

The last three weeks at the lodge were simply amazing and I could have easily stayed for longer. Chris and James are absolute legends who look after you a lot. Chris showed me how to fish in the sea and I went hunting with James. We made many small group trips and I saw a lot of local secrets, caves and beaches. the lodge is located in the rainforest, and a quite place to calm down. Easy & fun work, great team spirit, and I learned a lot from my time beeing there. I will definetely come back for a visit or another stay! I'm grateful for every minute and tears fell when I had to leave

Chris was a lovely host! He was very friendly when we arrived and showed us a lot of local spots in the area that I would never see without him! The punga pad was a cozy place to stay with all the other travellers that worked there. For work we made beds and cleaned rooms which only took an hour everyday. I absolutely enjoyed my time in the lodge and would have loved to stay longer if I had the time!

My stay at the lodge was truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, Chris and James made me feel right at home. They are such warm, welcoming hosts who took me to the best spots and shared their local knowledge, making my stay feel extra special. The work was well explained, and the times were always respected. The Punga Pad was a real highlight—it's where I made lasting friendships and felt part of a wonderful community. I genuinely would have loved to stay longer. The whole experience was so peaceful, and I left feeling recharged and grateful for this wonderful experience!

My experience at the lodge was great! We were a big bunch of voulenteers who shared the work, so it was quite easy. The two hosts are funny and kind! Chris took us out on multiple trips such as mussel picking, cave-walks and to the dog beach with Marli, Chris's dog. James showed us how he helps preserve local nature by taking a friend of mine and me on a hunting trip to hunt invasive species that the DOC says are damaging the environment. This experience was somewhat heavy, but we also learnt a lot and it was great fun. 👍

Amazing experience! Chris and the team are so friendly and welcoming. The work was very easy and efficient. Once work was done, Chris often took us to the beach or out on fun adventures. There is also a beach and trails within walking distance. I highly recommend this experience!

A stay I will never forget. the lodge and the team don't need another good review but they absolutely deserve it. I really enjoyed all of the stay, the work was easy and definitely doable, I had plenty of free time and Chris showed us so much around Punakaiki. I really appreciate all his efforts to show us some special places or animals and every sunset on Marley's beach:) The accommodation was comfortable and perfect for making new friends from all over the world and Chris always made sure that everyone feels like being at home without any needs. Thank you Chris:)

Having the chance to stay at the lodge was incredible. The work is easy and fun and you'll get to meet some amazing people and to enjoy the beautiful views. Chris is just lovely and will get out his way to help you and make sure you enjoy your time there. James is also really enjoyable and will help your stay to be even cooler. It is a really great place.

This was an amazing experience and I wish I could've stayed longer. The Punga Pad (staff house) has so much life to it and was very exciting to be a part of. Chris is an extremely wonderful person and always makes an effort to show you around Punakaiki. His kindness is unmatched and I wouldn't change a single thing about my experience in Punakaiki. It was amazing; thank you for everything Chris!

I can really recommend it. I actually only wanted to stay 2 weeks, but I extended my stay. The work is not difficult and usually only an hour. Chris is so sweet. He takes care of the volunteers. He makes small trips with us, for example he has shown us fireflies and penguins. He often drives to the beach and takes us with him. We wanted to hike then he drove us to the beginning of the hiking trail. He also loves to teach us things about the things he showed us. It was a really good experience.
