Helen is super friendly, always supporting the dogs and she was always there if I had a question. Everything was as discussed and I always felt really respected and had a really great time! It's a wonderful place for all dog lovers to learn and gain experience. I really enjoyed the quiet environment where you could take a lot of time for the dogs but it was so hard to leave after you get to know all the dogs especially Rusty, Earnie und the puppies! Many thanks to Helen and the other volunteers Carmel and Alex for the wonderful time. I definitively want to come back!

Had a really good time working here. Helen really cares about all the dogs at the sanctuary and is doing great work running it. The other volunteers were also really nice to work and hang around with in the downtime. Would happily return in the future!

This experience is truly how you get to know the ins and outs of a dog's life. There is a set routine for feeding and walks that you will have to learn, it can seem overwhelming but by day 5 you've pretty much got it. You get to live with only volunteers, this is good for socialization and you learn much. Helen is a nice boss, she shows you how things work and lets you to it. The dogs are lovely and nothing to be scared of. Bulgaria is welcoming (at least during fall) it is a beautiful country.

This was my first volunteer experience and it was a good experience! If you love dogs then this experience will be great for you. You have to be committed to the dogs and be comfortable living along side them. It can be very overwhelming at first but the routine is the same each day so you pick it up naturally. However, with the routine being the same it sometimes can feel quite repetitive and days off are not guaranteed when there aren't as many volunteers. You spend so much time with the dogs that saying goodbye to them is the hardest part!

I did leave early, but I do love and miss the dogs very much 🤍This was caused by a few different things. One was that Helen was kind to me but I also thought her phrasing was harsh. Helen asked me why I was wary of the larger dogs, and I answered that I had been attacked by a dog when I was nine years old. I explained, to which she responded bluntly that she had also been bitten in the past. I understood, but these were two different scenarios—I was attacked on the street, and Helen manages a dog shelter. I felt uncomfortable after this, However Carmel, another volunteer was lovely.

Working at the shelter was truly an amazing experience, the other volunteers were lovely, as was working with the dogs! Helen truly gives 110% in caring for y them. The hours were as agreed and I had a fun time :) definitely would recommend! Be aware of an early start though lol

This has been one of the best experiences ever, I stayed for 2 months and I cannot believe that how sad I was to leave. I already miss all the dogs. Helen is a great woman, she provides for the dogs and cares about the well-being of the volunteers. The first days can be overwhelming and confusing, but once you are used to the routine everything will be easier, so don't hesitate into asking Helen or any other volunteers about the routine. I also would like to thank to the amazing volunteers that I had the opportunity to share this experience with, Guillaume, Charlotte, Carmel, Iliana and Rhuan

I stayed a month at the shelter and I'm sad to leave 🥲 It has been challenging, it wasn't the most comfortable place I've been for sure 😅 but it is truly a great experience, an initiatory journey for any person wanting to discover if s/he is a dog lover. Helen is doing an amazing work rescuing all of these dogs and giving them a safe place where they can find some happiness and love. Thank you for everything, I wish you and all the other volunteers good luck in your brave and worthy endeavour ❤️ Big kisses for Sheba, Pip, Kiki, Cleo, William and Esme 😚

- House is dirty and Helen doesn't live there - Loud at night because of dogs - Lot of responsibility, you have to take care of many dogs - Food topic is difficult - Place is remote, one little shop - No ATM - be aware that you have to be careful and attentive with the dogs For me it was worth it going there because I did something good and learned a lot! It's a chance to get out of your comfort zone and it's rewarding work. In the first days it will be a lot but you will get used to it. I would definitely do this again! The dogs are very sweet and I met amazing people there.

I think volunteering in the shelter has been one of the best decisions I made during my trip. The dogs are really lovely and easy for you to fall in love with them. The daily chores are the same everyday (feed, clean and walk the dogs) in the morning and afternoon and take almost the 5 hours. But definitely all extra work is going to be helpful and appreciated, like some repairs and things to make the place even better for the dogs. Helen was a great host and nice all the time of my stay. If you really love dogs it is a great place to volunteer. For me it was ♥️
