Brainstorm Homeschool

My project focuses on teaching English to Thai people, with an emphasis on empowering them to confidently engage in conversations with foreigners. The primary goal is to build confidence in using English, enabling Thais to exchange ideas, perspectives, and cultural knowledge with volunteers. This exchange takes place through conversations in English, fostering mutual understanding and cultural appreciation. Additionally, volunteers have the opportunity to stay in Chiang Mai at my home, which is nestled in a garden-like setting. This offers a serene and ideal environment for relaxation and cultural immersion in Thailand. The project not only enhances language skills but also bridges cultural gaps, creating a meaningful and enriching experience for both Thai participants and international volunteers.

"Our home welcomes both native and non-native English speakers to teach the language. If you are confident in your ability to engage, converse, and connect with others, this is the right position for you. You will find joy in traveling while making your journey meaningful to your students."

What we exchange with our volunteers:
1. Teaching techniques. If you are already a teacher we can share our experiences.
2. Exploring the local Chaiangmai areas (hot springs, caves, mountains, markets, waterfalls) during free time.
3. Eating local and traditional Thai food both at the school and around the area.
4. Teaching volunteers how to cook by using different techniques. Some dishes I have taught before to volunteers are: honey toast, green curry, shabu shabu, tom yum soup, padthai, papaya salad etc.
5. Meet local people around Chaingmai. They are always eager to get to know volunteers because they don’t see a lot of foreigners.

we are family just 3 people in our family and I am a teacher who works with Government. We live in the downtown where agriculture part of Thailand. At my home, we focus on exchanging accommodation and Thai food. If you come and have any specific activities you would like to do, please let us know." The work I need volunteers to help with is in the evening. You will have free time to explore and travel all day........

Our experience was generally pleasant. We enjoyed teaching English to the students, the classes were easy, and the food was good. However, the schedule often changed with very short notice and was usually shared around noon, which made planning our free time difficult. We stayed in a tent for a week due to the high number of volunteers and the lack of accommodation for couples, with only separate rooms with limited space for personal belongings.
Overall, it was a nice week, though not the best. Pingpong and his family are very friendly, and I appreciated the barbecue we had together.

Brainstorm Homeschool is a peaceful and nice place to rest and learn. Even though it is small city, there are activities around that you can coordinate with the host. (Bamboo rafting, my favorite)
Some days have a busy schedule with classes, but overall it is a rewarding experience and the host is very supportive and kind. I’m grateful for the time I spent here. Thank you!

This volunteer experience was very meaningful, focusing on teaching online conversational English to Thai people, helping them build confidence to communicate with foreigners through real conversation and cultural exchange. Staying at the host’s home in Chiang Mai, surrounded by a calm, garden-like environment, made it easy to experience local life while feeling comfortable and supported. The family is kind and welcoming, and the schedule offers a great balance between socializing and having personal time, with teaching in the evenings and free days to explore, rest, or enjoy time on your own.
