This was my first time volunteering, and it was amazing! Budi, JP and Uchi are so nice and helpful. The working tasks are so manageable and they are very flexible with when I could do them. I got to explore the island, learn about their program for coral replanting , connect with the locals and got a truly authentic experience. I will definitely come back

My experience in Tawun was so memorable. I first planning to stay for a week but enjoyed my time and extended for a second. I wanted an experience that would give me a true experience of what local life is like in a small village and this experience defiantly gave me that. I become very close with all the local people and all the people involved with the DBS operation. We dived a ton and got to see much of the sea in the surrounding area. I learned how to dive here and felt very comfortable and guided through the whole experience. If you are new to diving, or experienced you will love Tawun

I had an amazing stay at the project in the project! I learned so much about the mangroves, Indonesian bees and the local way of life. The kids I taught English to were enthusiastic and kind, and everyone in the community made me feel so welcome from the very first day. It's a wonderful place to connect with nature, experience authentic Indonesian culture and be part of a warm, caring environment.

I had an amazing time teaching the students! They're super open-minded, eager to improve their English, and curious about the world. Life there is unique — everyone is self-sufficient, the nature is beautiful, and the people are incredibly welcoming. I even got invited to dinner by locals and felt like part of the family. Such a special experience that I'm really grateful for! I recommend this experience <3

I spent two weeks with my travel buddy, Agung who quickly became my family, my brother, my partner in crime. Together we probably rode across half the island. Sometimes I didn't even know where I was going, but I didn't need to. I trusted Agung. I even got to ride a scooter myself (still proud of that one). I got to film the heartbeat of the project. We explored beautiful beaches, jungles, and waterfalls. I was also welcomed by Habib's family — who treated me like one of their own. They became my second home. I could write an entire monologue about this experience, but for now...matur tampiasih!

My stay in the project was a very special and memorable experience. The people are all so welcoming and happy to see you. I got to connect with so many local people and be a part of their everyday life which made my travels so authentically rich. The program offers a variety of possible activities and pursuits that are very flexible, as you can decide for yourself what you want to try and to what extent. Playing with the children, learning not only english with them but also indonesian from them, and getting to know a culture so different from my own was an unforgettable experience!

About the destination

This experience is set in the stunning, turquoise waters off the coast of West Lombok, an area defined by its chain of pristine, lesser-known islands or 'gilis' that lie far from the main tourist hubs. Your days will be a sun-drenched adventure of island-hopping by boat, where you’ll dive into the crystal-clear waters of Gili Nanggu, snorkel through the vibrant marine life around Gili Tangkong and Gili Goleng, and relax on their quiet, secluded beaches. The true soul of this community reveals itself when you step ashore. Here, your journey will take you inland to feel the cool mist of the cascading Aik Berik Waterfall hidden within a lush jungle, and to walk through living history at the Sade Sasak Traditional Village, connecting you with the rich culture that defines this unique part of Indonesia. It's an immersive exploration of a place where authentic coastal communities, vibrant underwater worlds, and ancient traditions all converge, culminating in an unforgettable sunset from the tiny island of Gili Kedis.
