Our family home

Life here is full of energy, kindness and a little chaos, in the best way. We are a big inclusive family living between fjords and mountains in Ørsta. Surrounded by incredible nature and lots of animals. You will experience everyday life in Norway from the inside, with real people, real stories and plenty of laughter.

You will get a private room, good food and a genuine place in our home. It is not a 'free stay', your help really matters, and in return we will make sure you feel appreciated and included. When the work is done, you will have time to explore, hike, swim or just relax and enjoy the peace of rural Norway. if you like a lively, welcoming home where every day is a bit different, this is the place for you.

We are a Dutch-German queer family with 6 kids (the oldest just moved out to study), several cats (including some fosters from animal welfare), a dog and a horse. Life here can be busy, noisy and full of movement but also full of warmth, humor and acceptance. We treat our volunteers as part of the family while respecting their need for space and privacy. You will always have your own room and plenty of time to yourself but you are also welcome to join our meals, chats or family outings. We value honesty, kindness and open communication. If something doesn't feel right, we talk about it. You will be treated with respect, supported when you need it and appreciated for the help yougive. We do not expect perfection, just someone who shows up, helps out and enjoys being part of our lively, loving chaos.

I spent three winter weeks with this lovely family and I’m really grateful for my stay. Because it was winter, I couldn’t do as many hikes as I hoped, but I’m sure this place is amazing in warmer seasons.
All the animals were adorable and well-behaved, and Max completely stole my heart. Marsha and Yoko were very welcoming and having another volunteer with me made everything easier.
Thank you for the cozy and memorable time!

Ørsta is such a beautiful place, surrounded by stunning nature, and I really loved spending time with the family’s sweet cats - they were definitely a highlight!
The experience overall was a bit mixed.

Communication wasn’t always clear, and some expectations were confusing at times, which led to a few misunderstandings and stressful moments. Things could get a little unorganized, but I tried to make the best of it.

In the end, it was still a valuable experience, I learned a lot, enjoined Norways beautiful scenery, and met five adorable cats and of course Kayleigh who I’ll really miss🐈 🤍

Thanks, since as you mentioned we talked about the issues there were while you were still here and since it was a two way issue with communication, we chose not to put it in your review cause we felt it wouldn't be fair to damage your credibility because of something we managed to work out. We think it's a bit of a shame you chose to do this differently. I think in that case it would have been fair to also mention that it was not just a problem from our side. Wishing you the best non the less.

Marsha, Yoko and all the family is that kind of people that reminds me world is full of good-hearted people. You've created a HOME together and I am truly thankful of have been part of it. Although it was only for some weeks, I never felt as a foreigner, but a temporal welcomed member of the house. Tasks are fair and there was always a clear and good communication.

I had a wonderful three weeks with Marsha and Yoko. From the very beginning I felt truly welcomed—Yoko is so kind, Marsha communicates so well, and the kids are cheerful and always included me. The dog and cats are adorable and affectionate, so I never felt lonely.
The work was clear, flexible, and not difficult, and I learned a lot along the way. Free time was always enjoyable too—playing with the kids, walking outside, or just relaxing with the piano and other instruments at home. The scenery around the house is beautiful, with a great hiking trail nearby and a fjord just a bus ride away.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. It warms my heart to know you actually enjoyed your time with us. I was a bit worried that you felt alone or that all of us were too overwhelming. ❤️
