Our family home

We are definitely not your standard family but at the same time perhaps more standard than first expected. With us you can get a bit of several worlds/cultures. We are a Dutch/German family living in Norway. We can help you with the language. We like to go out and enjoy everything Norway has to offer as much as possible. But we also enjoy just relaxing at home. We can share information about all the things around here that you can do. During wintertime you can choose from different skicenters and go ice-skating on the lakes. In the summer you can swim, hike or cycle to explore the beautiful nature surrounding us. In the village center you find different shops, gyms, a movie theatre, a library and more. We also have a local airport. The nearest city is Ålesund where you find a bigger airport with direct flights to different places in Europe (f.ex. Amsterdam). The city center of Ålesund is full of history and worth a visit and you will also find a saltwater aquarium here.

We have a big family and can be pretty chaotic and loud at times so you have to be able to live with that 🙂. Besides our 6 kids we have 4 cats, fostercats, a puppy and a horse. Some keywords for our family (we are many so not everything applies to all): K-pop, dancing, music, swimming, reading, animals, spending time together, netflix, talking, taking walks, skiing, anime. We are looking for someone that is self-confident, used to a lot of live and chaos and social/outgoing. We prefer someone to stay for at least 1 month, possibly more. Living with us means you become part of the family for the time you are here. I think it's fair to say that the more you invest in getting to know us and the children, the more you get out of your experience. We realise we don't have a standard family and understand there may be things you don't understand or are curious about. We don't mind that at all but we would love to share our story rather than being judged so please be open minded and ask whatever comes to mind.

I had a wonderful three weeks with Marsha and Yoko. From the very beginning I felt truly welcomed—Yoko is so kind, Marsha communicates so well, and the kids are cheerful and always included me. The dog and cats are adorable and affectionate, so I never felt lonely.
The work was clear, flexible, and not difficult, and I learned a lot along the way. Free time was always enjoyable too—playing with the kids, walking outside, or just relaxing with the piano and other instruments at home. The scenery around the house is beautiful, with a great hiking trail nearby and a fjord just a bus ride away.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. It warms my heart to know you actually enjoyed your time with us. I was a bit worried that you felt alone or that all of us were too overwhelming. ❤️

Marsha and Yoko made me feel very welcomed right away! I stayed 6 weeks, and after only the first one, I felt like I was home. The younger kids are very social and are always up to do activities and games. It's a lot of people in the house, but I absolutely loved all that constant action. The nature around is incredible and there are so many beautiful hikes to do. Also, the chores are very clear and easily fit in the hours proposed. For my first time with Worldpackers, I had a memorable time!

My experience with Marsha and Yoko was quiet pleasant. It took a while for me to get used to their big and chaotic family but I felt very welcomed from the beginning which helped a lot!
I think that it can get a bit overwhelming if you’re not used to big families or just having a lot of people around in general but I was provided with a nice and cozy space to retrieve in if needed, which I think is very important. The area, in which they live, is very calm, quiet and perfect to go on walks and enjoy the beautiful view!

Staying with this lovely family was definitely a rollercoaster. I had a little trouble adapting to the family’s chaotic routine and hectic energy, but the experience was still fun. Marsha and Yoko were very understanding and communicative with me, which I am so grateful for. I was able to go on beautiful walks and a fun pool activity for free. The space provided for me was adequate and cozy. Overall, I had a good time and I would recommend this experience to any worldpacker who is energetic and loves kids.

I had the most wonderful time staying with this warm and welcoming family of eight, along with their adorable pets. Though it was sometimes chaotic, it only added to the charm and homeliness of their place. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel like part of their family with their kindness and care. They ensure I had a great time, organizing fun outings, cozy movie nights, and games. At the same time, they were respectful of my need for independence, giving me the freedom to explore whenever I wanted. Everything felt so easy and flexible, thanks to our open communication.
