Fridhem
Fridhem is at the heart of the small traditional village of Stjärnsund, Dalarna. We are a holistic retreat and course centre and there are lots of interesting people who have been drawn to live here. We have a large old course building from 1890 and a two hectare forest garden that are great places to learn practical skills.
Our centre has a 1GB fiber internet connection which makes it ideal for volunteers who need good connectivity during their travels.

We are a small team. Kelsey, a Canadian local is the main volunteer coordinator and teaches yoga at the center. Charlotta, one of the original founding elders plays an important role in mentoring and connecting with the volunteers as well as assisting with many projects. There are many local community members who work with the volunteers from time to time such as Johannes, Timberframeman, Chef and Yoga Teacher. Gustav, Outdoor adventurer and kinesiologist. Eva, elder and master gardener. Martin, Permaculture teacher and tree care professional and many more. Volunteers are welcomed into the village, treated with kindness and respect and encouraged to listen to their needs. They are reminded to take time to rest and explore nature, connect with the community and enjoy their experience here.

Fridem was an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful home away from home. The place we stayed was amazing its this super cozy house with everything you could need. I also really enjoyed the nature there which was super beautiful and peaceful. We were there in winter and I would say there is plenty to do there. The work was super laid back and was on your own time which I relly enjoyed, I felt free to do what I wanted. Overall I would say that it was an amazing experience!!

My boyfriend and I stayed in Fridem for 3 weeks and we had the best time ever. It's a beautiful community where everybody helps each and another and people genuinely care about each other. The work is easy and you have a lot of independence of when to do what tasks. There were a bunch of different task (like housekeeping, cleaning, Handy work, painting and much more), we could choose from, depending on what's more urgent and what we enjoy doing the most.
I would really recommend volunteering for Fridem !!

I spent around a week at Fridhem. It was an amazing experience - my first volunteer opportunity through worldpackers and i couldn't have asked for a better way to start.
Kelsey was really helpful - she shared all details before the start to help me and also arranged for the pickup from Hedemora. The works was very relaxed - and you had s lot of time for yourself to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Also there are some optional activities every day - which if you're interested in you can participate for free.
Overall - I really enjoyed my time and I hope to visit again in the summer.

Fridhem is a beloved place by all that are involved, a place to explore the beautiful scenery with Forrests and lakes close by. The volunteer house is cozy and well laid out with everything that you need, especially in the kitchen. Tasks were interesting and allowed me to learn some new skills which I am grateful for! I spent most of my time with another longer-term volunteer, Simone who was great company. Overall a nice stay and would recommend volunteering here with a friend or when there are more volunteers.

Isabel and Sheridan landed into the volunteer house with so much ease, always friendly and happy to help out with all the tasks. They took great care of the garden, easy to talk to. Sheridan also has experience with animals and her cat expertise has been appreciated! They are both just really sweet to have around. Wish them well on their next adventures
