Really this is BS, it only talks about hostels, they are businesses, working for a business in most countries needs a working visa, but a working visa permits paid work so why apply for Worldpackers.
Many non business environments would welcome helpers but the helpers need to be interested in who hosts are and what they are doing.
It isn't just about hours for hours it is about sharing and learning.
For these hosts the biggest problem is the use of the word "volunteers" that is not what helpers are doing, they are not popping in to do us a big favour, they are living in our house enjoying our home comforts, partaking of home cooked meals, learning a huge range of skills.
If anyone is this exchange is a volunteer it is the host, it is a huge leap of faith to open our home to strangers. To do our best to make them comfortable. To provide internet laundry, 3 meals a day. The 25 hours we ask in exchange is an extremely good deal for the traveller.
