The eco village is a great place for anyone interested in learning about ISKCON and people who enjoy spending time outdoors. The surroundings and the castle are beautiful! Due to our packed schedule, we didn't have as much free time to explore as I had expected. Also, the next town is pretty far and there's only one bus per day. (that's why I can only give 3 stars) But it is a good place to meet many new people:)

The eco village community was super inviting and grateful throughout my stay. I learnt so much about their practices, about farming and about different parts of the world though other volunteers. I would have loved if tasks were chosen at the start of the week instead of chosen daily just to add more structure to the week. Crash courses would also bode well for understanding the culture. Activies and tasks done as a group would also be amazing with strengthening bonds between volunteers. Overall I had a great experience and loved my stay there.

This was a unique and fun experience, and most everyone here was kind and welcoming. Do research about the Hare Krishna before coming, but you don't have to get involved with the spirituality aspects. You have to be covered from shoulders to knees, which is pretty strictly enforced. The work hours were respected, and there is plenty of good food so you will never be hungry! There was often no toilet paper or hand soap in the guest bathrooms, but conditions were otherwise perfect. Beautiful grounds, and towns within walking distance.

My experience in NM upon arriving was a challenge, it is a little far from the city, the culture, the food and even the language are different from mine 😅 however, as I got to know the beautiful place and each of the people who live in the eco village, I realized that we are very similar, people with principles and values with a common goal, they care about your well-being, if you need something or have questions, they will be there for you, Nitai was one of They, always looking out for us, Giri, Batiste, the Director, everyone. Always kind and nice to us! I carry them in my heart🥰 Thank you NM!

Nitai, the supervisor, is very kind, attentive and gave me all the support I needed. Every morning we are given tasks and we can 'choose' what we prefer to do that day. Tasks are well explained and working hours respected, as well as days off. I helped with gardening, in the woods, cleaning and washing dishes. Everyone there was extremely welcoming and they appreciate . Keep in mind that there is a large religious presence (Hare Krishna), so this is the place if you want to learn more about the subject, otherwise, make sure you will feel comfortable with that. :)

The castle is located 1h from Chatearoux, in an isolated area but surrounded by nature. Working hours were respected, as were days off . The activities were basically housekeeping, gardening and wood. The supervisor responsible (Nitai) for organizing the tasks was super attentive and always tried to adapt it to what you wanted to do that day. Meals were not always nutritious, considering the work done. Regarding the project, the Hare Krishna movement is strongly present, providing an opportunity for anyone who wants to learn and be in contact with this religion :)

My personal experience at the eco village was good. The place is beautiful, the tasks were manageable and the shifts were respected (even though there was sometimes a considerable lack of organization). But on a few ocasions, they called us out for not respecting the rules, but they didn't understand that most of us were unfamiliar with their practices and didn't know that we were doing things wrong (I am talking about things like playing cards or wearing clothes that were too revealing for them), so I feel like they could have been more gentle or empathetic sometimes.

First of all, the permaculture garden this place is named after is not in use - No permaculture course is provided. And yoga is twice week, not every day. If u want interesting, challenging conversations about religion this is a good place to go. Peaceful surroundings, accommodation is simple but nice except Not really anywhere to hang out for volunteers inside. And it was a bit dirty due to no real system for cleaning in the volunteer area of the guest house. Good food:) nice opportunity to experience the rituals in the temple. Some devotees are very sensitive to criticism of their religion.
