I had a wonderful time in Lisbon. The hostel was a really welcoming and cozy place and of course it was great to enjoy my meals on the roof top in the sun, looking at the river. 🌞 I had a lot of fun with the receptionists and other volunteers. 🫶 Since it's only 20h of work, there was plenty of time to explore Lisbon and the surrounding. I highly recommend and would love to be back soon!! :)

My experience was overall okay, but several things weren't as clear during the interview. I was told shifts were 4h with occasional extensions, but almost all mine were 8h. The volunteer room has no windows or ventilation and is next to a construction area. Housekeeping was supposed to be ~20 beds but I always did 25+. Shifts didn't rotate as promised. Manager communication was very limited and slow. If you just want accommodation and free parties, it's a good place. If you're looking for a warmer, more local experience, it's not the best. The reception, hk and bar staff were the highlight

This was my second Worldpackers experience, and overall, it was decent. Lisbon itself is an amazing city! I wouldn't say SDH is a top tier hostel, but if you know what to expect, SDH can be a worthwhile experience. SDH has a cozy vibe, central location, and amazing team! Also, Margarida, the volunteer coordinator, was super sweet and accommodating! Shifts were: bfast, reception, beds. You work alone except at reception. Bed shifts felt like an intense workout since you make +/- 20 to 30 beds. Also, bedbugs were found in two rooms but were later addressed. Feel free to msg any Qs!

The place was beautiful and in a very touristy area, and the terrace was definitely the best part. Breakfast was tasty and buffet-style. Still, during my volunteer shifts I had to make around 25 beds plus checks. They said we might work over 4 hours but never clarified that some shifts were actually 7.5 hours. Our four-person room was next to the maintenance area—noisy, windowless, and full of pipes. We never received any feedback or check-in about how we felt. Overall, it's fine if you just want a social trip with pub crawls.

I had an overall great experience at the hostel. The people were wonderful—I felt welcomed and everyone was friendly and accommodating. The location is beautiful, the hostel is very clean, and the atmosphere is really nice. Breakfast was good as well. My only issue was that at times I felt like I wasn't fully heard when I was trying to explain myself, which was a bit frustrating. Despite that, I would still recommend this hostel for its great community and lovely environment.

I appreciated the ease of travel from Lisbon & the perks more than anything else. The experience was alright overall; volunteers change a lot so it's a matter of luck who you are with. The communication with the host was not the best; many volunteers complained they never met her and from my experience she gets defensive when you have an inquiry & dismissive if you report an incident. It's a corporate hostel and not a family one; you will be treated as such. The main perk was having 3-4 days off at once. But the AC in the room (no windows) was controlled by them which is not nice in summer.

Una excelente experiencia en Lisboa! Tanto con el resto de los voluntarios como con las personas que trabajan en el hostel (recepción, desayuno, bar, housekeeping) me sentí muy a gusto y me encantó trabajar con ellos. Solo diría que falta un poco de comunicación con los managers.

I stayed for 5-6 days! The hours were respected even tho you may work 8 hours long some days! The overall experience was super disappointing! I chose this experience because I saw very good ratings but since the moment I arrived,I was expected to figure out things on my own and they blamed me and they told me why didn't you ask reception. The bed was sleeping it was half broken and the breakfast was okay but for the hours you were working it was nothing a volunteer should be volunteering it's not labour . When I chose to leave, I received personal and unprofessional comments

You weren't expected to figure things out on your own but to be a little more proactive and interested.
You never received unprofessional comments. Actually, we believe the only person unprofessional was you, when you told us you were not leaving and we could count on you after being asked, and just left the day after without saying anything.
We recommend you to clarify better the conditions next time. :)

I spent 5 weeks volunteering at Sunset the hostel, and overall I enjoyed the experience. The schedules are made so that volunteers have consecutive days off to explore Lisbon or visit other places, which was nice. The volunteers get a lot of perks as well which is nice, although I wish we were told about it upfront, as I missed out on some that I would've really have liked to do. The shifts are fine, beds I think could be divided between two volunteers, as sometimes I'd have more than 25 beds to do in 4 hours. The volunteer room takes some getting used to, there wasn't any AC or windows.

We'd just like to mention that the perks are the first thing we mention when we reply to your applications, and that the rules for the beds shifts are 20 beds in 4h - if you finish it before the shift ends, then you continue. However, management and receptionists were always available to help in case you had any doubts!
Regarding the AC, after you asked us, we placed AC units at the rooms.
