The time I spent in Kamakura was the best of my life. I met a lot of nice volunteers there and made really good friends. The food was great and Kuni is very nice. The beach and landscapes are stunning. The locals are nice. It's only around 1 hour and a half away from Tokyo. The only thing to consider is that the house you stay is 40 minutes away from the center, if you go by walking. But there's a station 6 minutes walking from the house. Also, if you prefer staying in a place with fewer people, maybe this volunteer is not for you, because the house can fit up to 10 people.

This was my first volunteering and everything was perfect. Could do it with my girlfriend too. We loved it here that much that we wanted to stay longer and it was agreed ;) We got in touch with Japanese and international people and it's safe to say that friends were made. As the place is not far from city life Tokyo but also not too far from nothing going on it is perfect. There is an Onsen nearby (tattoo friendly ;) ), the beach, shopping possibilities and lots of great vibes.

My time in Kamakura has been one of the best in life. Kuni san and Ai San have been the best hosts, always welcoming and caring. I will miss the delicious meals very much! Shifts were easy but a bit intense at first, but all the team were very helpful and kind. I can't recommend this experience enough to anyone that wants to connect with other travelers, get to know more about the culture and wants a peaceful environment close to Tokyo!

Kuni and the Wanderkitchen family were the absolute best. The work is very laid back and the hostel staff and manager are all so kind and willing to help if you have questions. Kamakura is the cutest, lots to explore, and was my Japanese home away from home. Until next time, arigatogozaimasu ❤️

I appreciate Kuni-san so much for allowing me on the team! I had an incredible time exploring the country. Kuni-san and his wife was the most sweetest and caring host. They made amazing food for each shift which I will miss even though I did not show up for dinner often (was out exploring). Future travelers, don't even hesitate on applying because this was a great location away from the city but also close enough to tokyo or any other city. The schedule is flexible enough to have day trips in other areas of japan. Thank you so much!

Great experience if you're a chill person, Kamakura is a peaceful and beautiful place and Kuni is very kind. You get delicious meals on the days you work. The volunteers house is great but always full with all kinds of people… Kuni also gives money to do groceries for the house and the work is pretty easy.

This was my first worldpackers experience and it was amazing. Kuni was super welcoming and helpful from the beginning and even let me stay for longer as I had problems with my next volunteering and couldn't go. And the food they make was delicious always ! the work it's pretty easy and chill and I got to meet many great people and talk and learn about their countries etc. Kamakura it's also such a pretty place, near tokyo, next to the beach and in general pretty calm and full of nature and shrines ! I would love to come back again. Thank you Kuni :)

It was a really great first experience with worldpackers!! I would definitely recommend this place if you're searching for a quieter place to stay. Kamakura has my heart. Moreover, Kuni was really patient and nice and i really appreciate his way of communicating. The work was easy, the part/full time staff member explain it really good to you. It was more free time than work because we were so many volunteers, which made the experience really interesting and partly challenging, living with so many people. Thank you for hosting me <3

This was my first time using Worldpackers and I could ask for a better way to start :) Kuni and everyone at wanderkitchen and the hostels are very nice and welcoming. I got the chance to explore kamakura and the surroundings as well as Tokyo. I met a lot of unforgettable people and made the experience even better! Initially booked 2 weeks but ended up staying 2 more :) definitely recommend it

Although you only get the delicious meals from Kuni San and Ai San when you work, I enjoyed my time there. I met many lovely volunteers at the Gokurakuji House (40 min walk to Kamakura Station), staff from WanderKitchen and Bench and with a lot of freetime you can really get to know Kamakura, explore all the temples and nearby cities. The sunsets at the beach with Mount Fuji are amazing as well. I wouldn't recommend this experience to travelers who are working remotely. At the hostels there is good WiFi, but not at the Gokurakuji House.
