Hello good people, I'm Ovick, father of 3 beautiful girls and I'll be your main contact here in Java during your stay. I run the English school where you will be volunteering, so if you have any questions, please do let me know! In addition to the school, I also run a free food truck for sharing meals in the local community to disadvantaged people, which you're more than welcome to visit and help to hand out meals if you want to. As a volunteer, you will assist our local teachers in delivering interactive English lessons to our students. Your role is not limited to standing in front of a whiteboard — you will: - Support students in real communication practice - Play games, roleplay, and do fun group activities - Inspire students with stories, songs, and cultural exchange - Encourage shy learners to participate and grow - Share your passion, energy, and kindness in every session You’ll be scheduled to assist for around 2–3 hours a day, with various classes across different age groups. We prioritize connection over perfection, and your presence alone can be the spark our students need to believe in themselves. What Can You Do in Your Free Time? Klaten is a hidden gem in Central Java — a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. During your free time, you’ll have the chance to: - Swim in crystal-clear natural springs like Umbul Ponggok and Umbul Manten - Hike the majestic Mount Merapi, one of Indonesia’s most iconic volcanoes - Visit ancient temples like the stunning Prambanan Temple nearby - Join local workshops to learn traditional batik painting, shadow puppetry (wayang kulit), and Javanese crafts - Taste authentic street food, explore morning markets, and experience daily life with the locals - Explore the homestead lifestyle at Yoso Farm — where you can learn sustainable living, gardening, caring for animals, and enjoying farm-to-table meals.
