Te Nikau Retreat
If you volunteer with us, you will fall in love with the West Coast. The unique opportunity to live 10 minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand is unmatched - and this is at zero cost to you! The light work load at our retreat leaves the majority of your time with us to be yours to do with as you please. We hope you will adventure with us!
Our staff is excited to welcome friendly and excited travelers! As much as you want to interact with us, we'll hang out with you. There are so many places to explore and we know all of the secret spots and have connections to most places you would want to explore in the area.

Chris was very helpful since we started contacted. We started work from 10am until everything done normally 11:30- noon.
He and James took us to local markets, beach and shopping.
If you have a car is better to explore but it’s ok even don’t become amazing beach and pancakes rocks are walkable distance.
I don’t have a car too
I met wonderful volunteers here and we had great Christmas dinner together. We also did someday trips and it was amazing.
I had already plan to move. If not, I would like to welcome my first sunrise with those wonderful teams.

Our first experience in NZ and what a special slice of coastline. The beautifully colored rocky beaches, tree ferns, Nikau palms, caves, and rough seas made for a very interesting nature experience. Chris made us feel welcome and had some really great recommendations of where to go/what to do. He guided us each day; the work is very easy & sometimes even fun, with lots of time after to relax, hike, explore, and just Be. I really enjoyed the song challenge, the thunderous ocean sounds, the secret spots, Tui bird songs, and the many nature adventures. I feel very grateful for our time there.

Te Nikau was a nice opportunity to experience west coast NZ & I feel grateful for our time there. Chris is a kind & generous host & made sure we always felt comfortable/supported with our work. We had many interesting conversations & he took us to some beautiful places - caves, hikes, beaches that felt like another planet. I was also able to play guitar/sing at the Punakaiki Sunday market every week. Nice people and welcoming. Nature is unique, nikau palms & avatar style mountains, amazing birds, inspiration for drawing and painting. Available car for groceries, very helpful. Thanks Chris!

Lovely wonderful fulfilling experience! I absolutely recommend, I booked to stay a month and ended up staying for 5 weeks as I was having a really great time.
Chris the manager took us to secret spots which were amazing every single time!
A car is handy but not absolutely necessary as someone will be going to town at some point and you can tag along.
Beautiful area, so peaceful and after 2 months in Auckland is exactly what I wanted.
