Summer Camp in Transylvania

Dear friends,

We want to invite you to spend the next summer at our CAMP for AWESOME KIDS (together with more than 25 international staff members), in the unique and beautiful region of Transylvania, Romania.

Here we want you to feel at home, as you join a fantastic team that will have lots of fun, create magic together, and inspire young generations to live with passion!

We have positions available to be part of the hospitality team and activity leaders.

Our hospitality staff assist the kitchen staff in preparing meals, serving in the restaurant and bar and are responsible for the preparation and maintenance of these areas. This role is very important for the satisfaction of children, teachers and the overall experience at our summer camp.

We use English as our main language for activities but get ready to learn some Romanian words and expressions as you go.
Please take some minutes to mindfully read these paragraphs as we have prepared them to give you a big and clear picture of the Life at Camp.

We would LOVE to have you here because:

+ With your mindful presence and contribution, we will create a multicultural environment that allows all members to cooperate and grow, as we lead groups of children through a fun and inspiring experience.
+ You can share your stories, energy, and ideas to make camp a unique experience every week. Our kids will love to meet you and learn from you as much as they can, from your personality to your country’s culture and all the creativity and activities you propose. We will do our best to support those ideas you bring in.
+ We need your help to empower our children and teens by becoming a role model to them, teaching them good values and habits that can transform their lives while creating long lasting memories and friendships.
+ We want to bring the World to the children of Romania, which come from every corner of the country. Give them the chance to see life from different perspectives and connect with you as this exchange happens.
+ You can share your talents, abilities, and energy, as you develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. You will also get to challenge yourself and connect with like-minded people.

So please consider joining us in this ambitious and certainly rewarding mission!

DURATION of your stay:

- Minimum 4 weeks (from mid-June to early September)
- Maximum – around 3 months (we start at the beginning June and we end the season in the first week of September).

OTHER DETAILS:
You will be accommodated in a co-living space with other staff members, and here you will have access to laundry, kitchen, food storage, eating spaces and chilling areas. We ask you to cooperate by following the co-existence agreements, help us keep it clean and treat it like your own home.
Your age: between 18-40!

About your tasks as a Camp Counsellor:

- You will join one of our Programs each week (English, Life Skills, Around the World, Sports or Games) as an active member of a team, and you will work together to develop quality sessions that fullfill your program’s goals. All campers have four activity blocks per day (you will be in 2 of them) and after dinner we all co-lead the Evening Program (every day is different, we will have contests, talent show, campfire, carnival, etc.). We have a meeting every evening to clarify next day’s agenda and responsibilities. The remaining time is your time off. As a support role, once a week, you may supervise campers during all breaks and lead a warmup session (normally 4 to 6 staff members per day), which gives you the opportunity to connect with all campers, have some chill conversations with them as you provide needed assistance in specific locations, and make sure all participants follow the co-existence agreements.

- You will help us organise those camp activities and lead them, which means setting them up, giving instructions, playing with participants, teaching some skills, encouraging positive energy and good behaviours, ensuring safety, and cleaning up (with participants support). You will have the opportunity to go with groups of children to some day trips where you get to experience life outside Camp while being co-responsible for their safety and enjoyment.

- Activities that you would like to lead and prepare can vary from quick icebreaker games to a more structured session or project. Depending on your skills, experience, and level of confidence we invite you to lead: Arts & Crafts workshops, Dancing or Fitness sessions, other languages workshops or meditation sessions, personal development workshops with team building challenges, and any other appropriate and empowering ideas you may have.

About your tasks if you decide to WORK in the RESTAURANT & ROOM CLEANING - once you apply you will be guided by the management of the location where we organise the summer camp and get specific training and more detailed instructions.

ARRIVING DETAILS:

Search for Alba Iulia on the map. This is the closest city to Ighiu, the village where our camp is located. The campsite is about 15 minutes from the city, and you can take an Uber or Bolt directly to camp.

The nearest airports are Cluj, Sibiu and Târgu Mureș, all around 1–2 hours from Alba Iulia.

You can also travel by train or bus to Alba Iulia from Bucharest or Budapest, although these journeys can take up to 10 hours. Teiuș is another good option to arrive by train.

Of course, we’re happy to help you organise your journey!

Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We hope to welcome you to camp this season!

Best regards,
Camp director

Easily the best place I could have imagined spending my summer. The camp is incredibly gratifying and rewarding, alongside being simply fun.
The host and management team are super welcoming and caring. Truely a place where you can be authentic and the best version of yourself. I've made friends that I will appreciate always.

Would recommend this experience to anyone.

Kilian integrated into camp life immediately. He connected with the campers and the team very easily. He was a fast learner, very adaptable and always open to trying new things. He made a significant contribution to the English Program, with kids who loved his classes every week. He was very responsible, always accepted a challenge and no matter what had to be done, I always knew he will fulfil his tasks with great results. When the time came, we were all very sad to see leaving the team ...

Taren's energy and enthusiasm for camp is incredibly contagious. He takes on every task with a smile and goes above and beyond each time. He effortlessly interacted with the campers and integrated seamlessly with the team. Taren was a huge asset to camp and especially to the Sports program. He is fun to work with, but in the same time he is very mature and responsible, and he has such a positive energy, everybody loved to have him around. Thank you, Taren and hope to see you again!

I was so excited for this one, but my experience was deeply disappointing and shockingly far from what was advertised on the platform. From the moment I arrived, it became clear that the expectations placed on volunteers went FAR beyond what is reasonable for a work exchange. The work hours were excessive (up to 16h/day), and there was a lack of basic hygiene, water and respect. When I raised my concerns, I was met with dismissiveness and repression, demanded to remain silent. There are multiple serious criminal activities happening there, no wonder they were already banned from Worka...

It's very sad to read this feedback, as we work hard to support volunteers and provide opportunities for growth, cultural exchange and to make a positive impact for the kids. We adjusted Isa’s schedule to suit her personal requests, which we don’t usually offer. Isa often missed meetings, creating distance from the group, yet left in high spirits, so it was surprising to later hear she discouraged others from joining. We are sorry her experience turned out this way, and we wish her all the best.

I liked the place, the food and my partners. I didn't have fun when I had to work. I thought I was going to help with kids, then I was going to do on-site maintenance, and finally I spent most of my time washing dishes.
It seems important to me to know in advance when your day off is and your hours.
If you are going to do the experience of doing activities with the children, I think it is an excellent option. If you are going to do other activities, you could discuss this in advance. Anyway i was happy to arrive there i wish the best to the camp...
