Shey

Greetings.
We are an English & Kenyan couple living in the French countryside.
We speak English, Swahili, Kikuyu, Kisii and a little French( We are attending French lessons).

We value connection with other cultures and love sharing our way of life with others. We believe in the power of exchange—whether it’s knowledge about permaculture, sustainability, or simply learning from each other’s experiences. Our aim is not only to create a self-sufficient space but also to foster a sense of community where everyone feels welcome and inspired by the natural world around us.

We are surrounded by mountains, lakes and nature . We are looking to sympathetically restore a 12th century French farmhouse in order to create a self sufficient, low impact community or retreat.
Depending on seasons, We need help with;
Clearing out barns and attic
Building a greenhouse
Help with planting out seedlings, sowing seeds
Help with food preservation
Help with building a greenhouse
Setting up pottery studio

We believe that our home is best enjoyed by many and would like to share it with you.

We are a mixed family of 6. 2 adult kids and 2 small children. On your stay with us, only Martyn and Lisper will be at home, but they often visit. *Key Note* We're Vegetarian but you're free to have meat. We offer Fullboard meals or you're free to cook something for you, home gym, wifi, private room with shared bathroom, bicycles. For campers, we have a big field for you!. We are quiet chilled out, love sports, gardening, going to farmers markets and flea markets ( you could join if you want to tour around) and travel often. We have 2 dogs, 1½year mallinois/beauceron and a 3months old border collier & 2 independent cats. We love the slow life and hoping that you will love the life in the countryside. We respect everyone who will be welcome in our home.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home. It has been a true honor getting to Know you and the other volunteers here.
This is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and slow down. A beautiful view of the country instantly put me at ease during my stay. I also appreciated the music to make the day duties get done quicker and attentiveness the hosts were to everyone’s needs. Recommend for people who enjoy being outside and not afraid to get their hands dirty.

My experience at Shey was above my expectations.
Martin, Liz , Scotty, Balu, Chop and Lili make you feel part of the family.
The place itself is beautiful, super quiet and full of places to discover.
The worked hours were respected and the facilities are okay. You have everything you need to feel comfortable.
I recommend Shey to other fellow travellers if you want to have a really nice time away from the noise and crowds of the city life.
I will be back definitely.
Thanks for everything.
