My time here as a volunteer has been wonderful, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many amazing people from across the globe. Cam, Kelly and Sam have been fantastic and welcoming. The work is very good in comparison to other volunteer placements in New Zealand. The landscape and local area is beyond stunning. To anyone wanting to spend some time in the north island bush I recommend highly. My only complaint is that pickup of new volunteers should be regular, not occasional, as the retreat is not on any public transport links and taxis are expensive. Cheers everyone at the retreat

Sacred Earth was a great experience for me! I really enjoyed the diversity of the community and the volunteers i had the opportunity to engage with. It was a welcoming environment and i feel we got along well. The work schedule was adhered to and the tasks were upkeep of the area and facilities. Three days on four days off. Completely reasonable for the exchange. I loved that they put you on a task and leave you to do it on your own. No micro managing. If you stay here i would recommend that you stay flexible and take initiative. I highly recommend this stay. Would like to have extended mine.

Sacred Earth retreat had views that are stunning and one of our highlights is the group of volunteers we met. They were warm and friendly and made it easy to build a sense of of community. The shard dinners & card nights with new friends was memorable. That said, the retreats management fell a little short of what we expected & what was listed on the post . The housing provided was not very clean when we arrived, the kitchen space was often dirty despite our efforts to keep it clean & there are no yoga class or mediation classes just a space to use. Communication was lacking from our hosts.

Sacred Earth is a beautiful place! We had a comfortable bed, and adequate facilities to shower and use the bathroom and do laundry. The kitchen was shared between many people& wasn’t always the cleanest( lots of old food in fridge). It was a separate building from where we slept. The work was weeding and planting and not super organized. Best parts were the Friday communal dinners w/ the other volunteers, & the views at sunset. We weren’t offered yoga or meditation classes. Which was disappointing. It’s very isolated if you don’t have a car. Grateful for the friends we made. Everyone was nice!

Sacred Earth is an extraordinary place. The location is stunningly beautiful and you are surrounded by nature. The host is very friendly and the working hours are fair. You have plenty of time to visit the surrounding areas. The cleanliness could be improved a little and volunteers could be deployed more sustainably. All in all, I can highly recommend staying here. Thank you for having us.
