New Mayapur

A remarkable Gothic castle with an 80-hectare estate is nestled in the peaceful countryside of the Central Loire Valley, between Luçay le Mâle and Ecueillé.

In 1975 a spiritual community, temple, asram and eco village, dedicated to the Bhakti Yoga Vaisnava lifestyle was established: simple living, high thinking. A life in harmony with nature and respectful to the environment.

The castle, a true gem built in 1895 by the Marquis de Preaulx, has been renovated with funds of the community. The estate also houses an ecological and animal-friendly farm where animals are protected throughout their lives, and a variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, and grains are cultivated.

Our estate has all the necessary infrastructure to accommodate our volunteers: a guesthouse with comfortable rooms or the option to camp, a restaurant in the castle offering hearty vegetarian meals, mainly organic and locally sourced.

We do NOT cook VEGAN meals, only vegetarian meals.

We also have a shop offering a selection of rare and unique items, a library filled with exceptional and valuable philosophical works, a yoga room and equipment, a rose garden, numerous enchanting forest trails, vegetable gardens, a stable where our cows and goat live lovingly, and high-speed WiFi.

We also offer volunteers enriching content, including discussions, guided tours of the castle and estate, yoga sessions, lectures, singing, and dancing, all led by our team of certified yoga instructors, Vedic philosophy and agriculture experts.

Lakes, rivers and french castels at few km...

It’s my first time volunteering and I enjoyed my staying here, the community, the people were so nice, the tasks aren’t difficult If you already have done farming or cleaning, but if you don’t they can teach you with patience, I found really interesting the activities after the work time, like yoga classes, the kirtan, etc. I recommend this place for people that are completely open to learn and wants to connect with their spirituality, It’s amazing mainly because you’re in a place where there are a lot of nature, peace and the time it feels like goes slowly, I really loved that. 🧘‍♂️❤️

The property is beautiful and most people are very welcoming and friendly. There is a daily meeting everyday where you are assigned your job so you always know what you will be doing which is good.

Communication could be a lot better. I was waiting an hour to be collected from the bus station when I arrived. I was not given a tour of the property, only shown my room and had to rely on other volunteers to explain and show everything to me. There is an older lady living there who is very rude to volunteers.

I had to leave the experience early as there was a death in my family.

This volunteering experience was my first ever and I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to try something safe for their first time as well. The tasks and working hours were agreed upon and not too hard. I learnt a lot about Hare Krishna and spirituality and I felt truly respected and accepted, as there was no criticism from anyone. I met some of the most amazing people from all around the world, people I will miss very much and remember them dearly for many years ahead. I urge you to try this volunteering experience!

Had a great time at New Mayapur. A very peaceful and beautiful place with a huge estate which includes the castle, guesthouse the farming areas and forest. Great place to meet people from all over the world. Do be aware that it's a sacred place to those that live there and you should respect that. Very inspiring to learn about a way of life very different to my own. I didn't learn as much as I would've liked about farming, but I think that it really depends on which time of year you stay.

a peaceful oasis to learn about krishna consciousness, explore the french forest, and paris too if you want. the work was good and fair- definitely hot if you come in the summer. my favorite part was working in the garden with jaladuta. he taught me a lot about plants and people and if you get a chance to sit down on a flower pot and talk while pulling some weeds with him- take it! as someone who came to contribute to food sustainability/to learn, i was a little disappointed to find that my tasks would mainly involve tending to flowers to be used for their spirituality. thank you new mayapur
