Mas des Figuiers

We have a small holding in beautiful Provence. There is always something to do and we need help! There are many jobs on the farm. We are no dig, permaculture and zero chemicals, so if you want to learn about how we do that and you enjoy hard work and lovely weather, then this is for you. As we use zero chemicals, we take extra care of our soil and plants to harvest the best, most nutritious vegetables. You will be able to learn about all the benefits and the high (and lows) of producing food like this.
You may be doing anything from digging holes, shoveling compost, planting out seedlings, watering and weeding and so much more. We also have chickens, ducks, farm cats, goats and horses and 2 dogs, so if you love animals you will be surrounded by them here.
All lunches and dinners are fresh home cooked meals with veg from the farm.
We have a special corner of Provence - so this is the perfect location for anyone who loves to discover and explore - markets, hikes, sight seeing, cafe's and boulangeries and summer festivals and literally the best chocolate ice-cream in the world from the local village.
We think this will suit 2-3 friends wishing to travel together - but we consider all applicants.
Accommodation is in a luxurious glamping tent. Electricity, proper beds and bed linen are all provided. In addition you have access to a private bathroom in the house and access to a communal space in the house.
* Please be aware if you book to work here in July and August, the work is outside and it gets HOT!!! Expect the high 30’s. We start early to get a head start, but inevitably it will get hot.

We value our volunteers here. We can't do this without you! There are times when the work is tough so we are looking for people who are up for the challenge. We value anyone willing to get stuck in and get their hands dirty! You will learn a lot along the way and have lots of fun! We work alongside you and all the volunteers work together on the farm. There is a daily schedule for the 5 hours work - some tasks are daily, whilst many vary from day to day. * On working days breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided and on non work days breakfast and dinner only are available… Philip and Rachel continue to work on weekends and imagine you will be knee deep in exploring everything the region has to offer.

I really enjoyed my time on the farm with Rachel and Phil. The surrounding area is beautiful and we had a clear schedule during the week. Some things to note are that that there isn't really a living space you can use apart from the dining room, and also no lunch is provided on weekends.

I really enjoyed staying with Rachel and Phillip. Their property is beautiful and the work is great if you like being outside and getting your hands dirty. We got to explore Avignon, Arles and Saint Remy during out short stay, all using public transport, which was a big bonus. I would note that they only provide cereal and milk for breakfast and any other breakfast items you need to buy yourself, they also don't offer lunch on weekends. There is a supermarket about a 35 minute walk away so it's not a big deal, but a good thing to be aware of. :)

Previous reviews didn’t reflect exactly our experience. The farm itself is beautiful and the tent comfortable. Spaces to relax are outdoors, which is lovely when the weather is nice.
Work is from 7:30–13:00, mostly repetitive: weeding, hand watering, and feeding animals.
Meals are provided and our dietary restrictions were respected. They are mostly basic, easy lunches like sandwiches and pasta, portions limited. Important to know: no free kitchen access, and Saturday/Sunday lunch not provided. Hosts are respectful, interactions mostly work-related. Volunteers should respect their privacy.

Our experience was not what we expected. While the treatment was respectful, there was little interest in connecting beyond work, making it hard to build a bond. We had hoped to learn about permaculture and exchange experiences, but it felt like they mainly needed help with repetitive farm tasks and animal care while they were away.

Some listing points are inaccurate:
The kitchen is for family use only, no weekend lunchs are provided, and no bicycles.

Positives: the farm is beautiful, the tent comfortable, schedules are respected, and the location is ideal for exploring Saint Remy

This experience was amazing! Learned so much about permaculture! The nearby towns are amazing and Eyragues is lovely. The bus station and town is within 25 minute walking distance or less! Things to note: they expect you will be gone on the weekends, you are not always allowed to use the kitchen, and they don't have bikes to use. Also the tent is really nice for sleep, but not great during the day because of the heat. This family is lovely and the work hours were very respected! The food was SUPER good and we ate a lot of items harvested from the garden. Thank you so so much Rachel and Phil!!!
