La Vannière

My home was built in 1785 and is in the middle of the mediaeval part of this quaint little town. The village is surrounded by mountains, vineyards and a river, so it is in the countryside, but is also within walking distance of bars, restaurants and shops. There is easy access to reliable public transport.

The village is situated within the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park The park provides a habitat for more than 240 species of birds, in a stunningly diverse range of climate and scenery. It also provides a home for mouflons, successfully reintroduced from Corsica.

I am a friendly, warm, caring and intelligent person who also likes to have fun. You can expect to be treated with kindness and respect, but also as one of the family. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH, THIS POSITION IS NOT FOR YOU. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO, OR DO NOT LIKE ANIMALS, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY, AS I HAVE PETS. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE A HOT MEAL FOR LUNCH - THIS IS SOMETIMES PROVIDED IN THE EVENING, BUT NOT EVERY NIGHT. I ALSO DO NOT COOK FOR YOU MOST OF THE TIME. YOU WILL HAVE TO COOK FOR YOUR SELF OFTEN. PLEASE NOTE THAT MY HOUSE IS OLD AND I AM NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION TO HAVE ALL THE FACILITIES YOU MAY BE USED TO. Thank you!

It was great learning from Michelle exactly how small you can run a business, utilising a few spare rooms and resourceful decorations to create a boutique b&b/ gîte in a small, yet beautiful village in the south of France. The location isn't as isolated as it seems with decent public transport and day trip options.
Unfortunately however, 3 weeks was a bit too long for me. As although Michelle is nice enough, our personalities and communication styles differ greatly, this often left me feeling socially isolated, invalidated and belittled in our conversations.
I will miss Tibalt & Stacey though.

I must say, I was really surprised by your comments about feeling "socially isolated", "belittled" and "invalidated"! Those are harsh and unfounded criticisms indeed. I included you in all my social events, even made you a special South African dinner! I'm sorry you have so many health issues, and if I became a bit impatient at times, but that's more about you than about me. You left here without a word of thanks, which I thought was very rude.

I had a lovely stay at la vanniere, Michele is a sweet host and she’s very respectful about the working hours. I also got along well with Stacey and all the cute animals. Sad that I had to leave early because of my heath problems🥲

I had a very good experience with Michele! I found most of the tasks very easy but struggled a bit with the painting jobs (mostly due to heatwave) and didn’t expect to do a lot of it . I loved loved being with the animals and going down to the river. I would recommend doing two weeks as I found 3 weeks a bit too long. I would definitely recommend this to others and it taught me a lot. This was my first world packers experience and glad it was here :)

I had such an amazing time staying at Michele’s bnb. I had a unique experience as Michele and her daughter were on holiday during my dates—but that didn’t matter. Michele was very attentive and helpful even over the phone. Always being clear with tasks and communicating with care. I truly felt welcomed and appreciated. The work was simple and versatile, never a boring day. The apartment itself is beautiful and a credit to Michele and Stacey. Neighbors and friends of Michele were also always there to help. It’s clear Michele is used to taking Volunteers due to her kind and respectful attitude.

The tasks were quite simple as they mostly consisted of household chores and they were very respectful of my time. The town itself is beautiful and surrounded by nature, but with that said, it had VERY limited shops nearby; Which is why it was a bit hard considering you only get breakfast and they barely cook. My room was okay but the rest of the house was rather unkept and unless you can ignore mess and dirt, it's not the most ideal situation. When I mentioned these things to the host, it felt unaccepted but I hope they improve for the next volunteers.

Well. i am rathershocked by what you said here ! Mess and dirt? Where exactly? IRegarding the food - i state specifically atht you get breakfast and lunch is a salad or sandwhich, which you can make yourself. I provide bread, pasta, sauces, cheese, ham, milk, butter, eggs, and chicken and pork sometimes.
