Dorna Eco Camping

We offer not only a place to volunteer, but also an entire experience. We live in a beautiful village surrounded by mountains, at 850 m altitude, at the foot of an egg-like shaped peak ("Ousoru" in Romanian), near Calimani National Park and not far from Rodnei National Park. You'll hear the legends of the 12 Apostles' Stones in Calimani or the Lady's Stones in Rarau Mountains, where you can go in a one-day trip.
Lots of activities are possible in our area: hiking, trekking, climbing in the nearby mountains, cycling on rural roads or mountain biking, canoeing, river rafting and visiting the famous Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. Since we are active people, we can help you organize your trips around and provide maps and brochures of the region. Depending on the time we have, we can even go together.
Our campsite is on a green meadow, full of wildflowers, basically in nature, where you can hear birds singing, crickets chirping in the evening, watch our sheep and the neighbour's cows grazing nearby.
Our small farm is made up of only 9 sheep (lambs included) and about 15 chickens. We also have two cats and two dogs in our courtyard. We keep several bee hives and in July we harvest the most delicious honey.
In the greenhouse, we mostly grow tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. And in the garden, we grow onion, garlic, beans, carrots, parsley, lettuce, radishes, zucchini and other vegetables & herbs. We also have a small orchard with apple and plum trees.
Practically, since we usually have lots of rain, we are in a constant battle with the growing weeds and grass. And that's why we need some help.
The river is at a stone's throw and the forest is just 15 minutes away by foot.
However, we are not secluded, there are a couple of shops at about 5 minutes by foot. Also, the town, which is a mountain resort, known for its mineral waters and and dairy products, is only 9 km away and you can get there by bus or taxi. You can also use our bicycle to get around.

If you love living outdoors, nature and animals, camping and hiking in the mountains, campfires in the evening, fresh organic food, this is the place for you.

Our business is family-run. Me, my husband and our 9-year old daughter are the entire team and we live just next door. We are very friendly, fluent in English and I also speak French. You will be considered and treated as our personal guest. We are used to having guests from abroad in our campsite and we love the cultural exchange. We will help you discover our amazing region, culture and traditions. If interested, you can learn about all the things we do around here: organic farming, gardening, beekeeping, jam-making etc. We provide a tent for sleeping with all necessary gear for a comfortable stay (inflatable mattress, pillows, blankets, table, chairs, pots, plates etc.). In case you need anything extra, you just have to ask. We offer one hot meal per day (lunch), homecooked, mostly traditional, made from our produce or ingredients from local producers. But we can provide some fresh organic ingredients for your other meals, such as: eggs, meat, milk, jam, honey, vegetables from the garden and greenhouse. Vegetarian options may also discussed. If you like cooking, maybe you can cook form time to time or we can cook together. We can go foraging for mushrooms and berries in the forest or picking medicinal wild herbs for tea. I can also teach you a bit of Romanian language, if you want. Of course, there is some work to be done, but it can be fun and a learning experience.

I had the most amazing time at the camp/ farm. They set up a lovely tent area for you, invite you to have delicious meals with them, and teach you lots about their garden and northern romania. Forever grateful for Ella and her family for welcoming me so warmly 😊 The area where they live is stunning and you will feel at peace if you love nature!
I suggest staying longer than one week, bringing warm and cold weather clothes, and come prepared to learn Romanian with the daughter!!
