Coffee Cat Café

Volunteers will get to interact with the local Costa Rican people, expats, and tourists from around the world while supporting the Coffee Cat Café's mission to get cats out of shelters and into homes. Volunteers can practice animal care and advocacy, hospitality, restaurant service, and connecting with others.

We are Coffee Cat Café, a Café featuring locally-made sweets and coffee with a separate Cat Lounge dedicated to interacting with ADOPTABLE rescued cats and kittens. We help save the lives of cats that would otherwise remain in shelters and be overlooked by adopters. We work with locally produced goods including our coffee, baked goods, and handmade crafts to support the amazing Costa Rican community. At the Coffee Cat Café, you can enjoy your coffee with a purpose!

I loved my stay in Uvita! Tricia is extremely nice and the work with the cats was amazing and did not feel like work at all!

absolutely loved my time at the cat cafe, Tricia is such an amazing person and I love what she does for the cats. The work is very easy and just includes cleaning the cat room, cleaning litter boxes, and feeding and taking care of the cats. Some small duties to help the cafe part is going to get bread or ice and watering the plants outside. My only trouble was with Cascada Verde and I do not recommend anyone stay there.

My experience was amazing, I recommend it. The labour was never more than 25hrs a week. Some days taking care of the cats, some days helping in the hostel, and some days both (kitchen hand is only in the hostel, not the cat cafe).
There are two hosts. Tricia, in charge of the cat caffe, is lovely, easygoing
Julie, the owner of the hostel, is kind but very strict a control freak, unflexible. Watch out, stick to the rules, and always ask first (she is around only the weekends).
Accomodation was not very comfy, you can’t stand up in the room for volunteers.

It is not close to the beach!

I had a wonderful experience at Cascada Verde and the Cat Cafe—Uvita is a beautiful place to be. The work was easy: playing with/feeding/cleaning up after the cats and talking to visitors at the cafe, and helping with breakfast and laundry at the hostel. The agreed upon hours were met (though sometimes I would work 7 hours one day and 2 the next, I never worked more than 25 hours/week). The hostel is a bit secluded (15 min walk to Cat Cafe, an hour walk to the beach) and the sleeping situation was rustic (mattress on the floor of the loft) but I didn’t mind. (:
