Arctic Farm Stall Holtaas

1 PERSON NEEDED from 23.july because of cancellation. Handy or horseperson. :) both would be awsome.

🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎 If they wanna explore nature in Norway this is a good place to do it. Do you need a quiet place, love animals and nature? Then this is your place.

We take in people with eighter horseskills or handyskills.. People with these skills are also prefered: horseskills, ridningskills, carpentry, building, painters, mechanics and other handyworkskills. Project this spring/summer: painting, fixing/repair of the tractor, take down a porch and build a new one, rebuild inside our small stable, fix the wooden lavvo, taking down old fences and makeing some new fences for the horses. Now and then: fix the rental house. Mainly the job is to take care of the horses, dogs and cat. Irregular workhours and can vary from day to day, depending on what we have to do. Regular workday: horses out at 8, clean boxes, food, water, shovel snow in the winter, walk the dogs. Horses in at 8 in the evening. Sometimes: clean airbnb before and after tourists. Other tipical farmwork.

You can see the Northern lights in the winter and midnight sun in the summer. Hiking here is amazing. You will love our horses and dogs. Most people come here to charge batteries from a tough life. You can do that here. But work at the same time. If you are happy to be outdoor and love animals: you will love it here.

Weather can be a little harsh, but somehow facinating to tourists.

PS! I need someone who have experience with HORSES and that hopefully can stay at least 2 months. But not less then 4 weeks. You also need to be selfdependent and positive person who can just do the work without me having to follow you around to get things done (it has happened several times). We like people who puts in their best effort in the work and treat the animals like they would treat their own animals. You: have to be positive and nice to the other volunteer. You have to be able to take instructions, do the work, share the work with the other volunteer and be a team-member. We had some that were the opposite and it is not good for anyone with negativity and when someone is not doing their best. So I hope for someone positive and who actually like doing things. The 2 volunteers shares the work and make their own schedule and who is gonna work when. So you have shift work regarding when you work-have days off. And you two have to plan it.

The APPARTMENT: 2 private bedrooms. Livingroom, small kitchen. More pictures will be put on this site: airbnb.com/h/appartmentarcticfarmhouse.

For our volunteers we have: bikes, skies, tent, sleepingbag.

Riding is not included in the work so it is not a horsetraining job. First of all it is to take care of the animals, the farm and the airbnb. If you are a good rider: of course you can ride our horses 🐎🤗🌞

We are experienced hosts. We are strick but kind and want volunteers to follow our and Norwegian rules. We want you to be tidy as well. We use to have 1-3 volunteers, depending on the amount of work. We dont eat with volunteers all the time, just now and then. You have to be a positive-yes person so the teamwork is going smoothly. We had some volunteers who is not good at all, negative, not helping and should not travel. It is always really hard on us, the other volunteers and makes the days difficult. So if you are not a positive person who likes doing work and beeing outside no matter what weather: please don't apply. We just want a quiet life. And volunteers have their own appartment. With 2 bedrooms, small livingroom, small kitchen. Shared bathroom with the rental house Arctic Farmhouse Stall Holtaas. So you really need to keep it tidy. We prefere you stay in the appartment. Food: all the regular food. Candy and other expensive/spesial food you have to buy your self. You can also interact with our neighbours volunteer. Norwegian people can be a little private and quiet. There is not many people here so there is not many people to interact with. On the other hand: there is not much stress. . If you need a lot of persons around you and a lot of sosial life-this will be too quiet for you. There is not many people around so there is not much sosializing with locals. If you like an harmonic and calm place: this is the place for you.

I spent 6 wonderful weeks at the farm with horses and dogs, and I truly enjoyed every moment. From the first day, I felt like home. Sissel is incredibly kind, warm, and always in a good mood – her positivity made every day brighter.

We had free time to explore the surroundings, and we could even borrow a car, which allowed us to see a lot of beautiful places in the area. I'm so grateful to Sissel and her lovely family for making me feel welcome and part of their home.

A big thank you also to Lara, who was with me at the farm for 4 weeks – we shared many great memories together.

My experience here could not have been any better!
Sissel is such a funny, interesting and kind person and a super caring host. I felt taken care of at all times!
The farm itself is great as well, I fell in love with the very sweet horses and dogs as well as the nature around it. It‘s a very peaceful place yet there‘s lots of outdoor activities as well- hiking and swimming especially. We even got to explore the area further around which I‘m so grateful for!!
The work can be hard, but it was always managable and a fair amount.
Overall, 100% recommend and wish I could‘ve stayed longer! :)

Good experience, make sure there’s another volunteer cause you will have to handle the horses, dogs and cleaning the barn by yourself and it can get really lonely and lots of work. Consider doing housekeeping at the Airbnb.
Make sure you have strong experience with horses. If not, it can be hard to handle all of them because the host may not be always around.
The landscapes are amazing and the host sometimes can lend you the car for short distances drive to take a look around.

Hi Samantha! You would not have been handeling the horses by yourself without the horseexperience. Only the skilled ones do that. But I did not even get to tell you. The tasks would have been walking the dogs, cleaning and feeding and seldom airbnb. The in and out of the horses I do myself when I don't have skilled people. You would not even get close to a 32 h week. That is a misunderstanding. But no problem. It is still too lonely to be 1 volunteer unfortunately (cancellations)

It was my first volunteer experience and Sissels farm is the perfect place for a start into the volunteer community.
If you are comfortable with animals and work in the stable you will definitely enjoy it. The hours of work per day are super fair in comparison what you get for it.( food, accommodation and free time)
However the farm is very remote and from my point of view it can get very lonely if there is no other volunteer.
You need to be flexible/comfortable with short time changes and housekeeping.(taking care of their air bnb)
I learned a lot and left with good memories:) thank you

My stay with Sissel was unforgettable! I had the opportunity to spend a month with her, experiencing her unique way of living and working with her wonderful horses and dogs. Her deep connection to the animals and the land was truly inspiring. Sissel creates a warm and inviting atmosphere where you feel immediately welcome. Working with the animals was fulfilling and educational. The surrounding unspoiled nature added an extra layer of peace and beauty to the experience. I’m very grateful for the time spent with her and highly recommend her as a host!
