The experience

We are renovating our beautiful and old house which also works as a village cafe. We would need help with in general renovation like painting, woodwork, wall papering etc. You really can use your own creativity since we like the personal and somewhat artistic touch.
The house is our mission to bring the village more alive and you are more than welcomed to enrich the village life.

What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Requirements

Intermediate English or Beginner Finnish

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

We expect you to be handy and self-motivated. We don't expect you to be a renovation or construction professional - what's more important is that you want to learn and have basic skills. But most importantly, we are primarily looking for good people, not skills.
You might also have other tasks like shoveling the snow or cutting the firewood.

You will be staying in the house we are renovating and you will have your private room. Other spaces are shared with possible other Worldpackers.

Keep in mind that the temperature during the winter months might drop quite a lot. Bring your warmest clothes to stay cosy on the outside.

We are happy to plan your working hours so you have an opportunity to enjoy surroundings. The village itself is small and quiet but there are big cities nearby you can explore. The house is located 300m away the railwaystation so you can access all around Finland via train.

We will provide the ingredients for the basic meals but the ready made meals are provided only during the days the cafe is open.

Activities & Shift

The basic shifts will be mon-fri somewhere between 8.00-18.00 (6h/day) but we are flexible with the timetables.
You will be working with the renovating tasks which are in the renovation plan such as changing the outer house panels, painting etc. Tasks will vary depending on the weather and other conditions.

Rules

We want you to respect and be kind to the other people in the house and also respect the house itself. No smoking or using strong scents (includes perfumes) in the house since we are very sensitive with smells and also our cafe is a scent free zone.
Cleaning after yourself and keeping the common areas tidy is required.
