Teach, Learn, and Explore at a Buddhist Monastic Center


The experience

Located in a serene environment, this Buddhist institution nurtures young monks in their spiritual and personal growth. All activities are conducted in English medium. allowing and inviting foreign volunteers to engage meaningfully. Volunteers can teach through games, conversation, and interactive activities, contributing to the children’s development while experiencing Sri Lankan culture and Buddhist practices firsthand.


What you offer

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Program Details

This volunteer program offers a unique opportunity to engage with young Buddhist monks and help them enhance their English language skills through interactive teaching methods. Volunteers can incorporate games, fun activities, and group projects, in their teaching process. Participants will work closely and friendly with both teachers and students, gaining insight into the institution’s educational practices. Beyond teaching, volunteers can experience authentic Buddhist traditions, including meditation sessions that cultivate inner peace. The program also provides the chance to explore Sri Lanka’s breathtaking landscapes, from serene countryside to picturesque cultural sites, making it a new experience of learning, service, and adventure.


Activities & Shift

Volunteers will engage in daily classes of two to three hours, focusing on enhancing the English language skills of young Buddhist monks. Teaching can take a fun and interactive approach, including activities like singing songs, conducting speaking exercises, or any creative method that encourages language use. As well as administrative requirements, extra class sessions or additional periods can be arranged (no more than 3 hours), providing flexibility and ample opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the students’ learning journey.


Rules

Volunteers are expected to respect the sanctity and traditions of the Buddhist monastery. The use of intoxicants is strictly prohibited, and female volunteers are kindly requested to dress modestly and appropriately. All participants should maintain responsible and respectful behavior, avoiding any romantic or inappropriate conduct. A calm, genuine, and considerate demeanor is encouraged at all times, fostering a harmonious and positive environment for both the young monks and the entire institution.
