Help us to restore our 150-year-old stone house in Slovenia
The experience
Hello! We’re a British-German couple restoring a 150-year-old stone house in the remote Soča Valley, Slovenia. With help from local builders (and our cocker spaniel!), we’ve made huge progress—roof, electrics, plumbing, plaster removal—and are now in the final phase. We’d love help this summer and look forward to sharing practical skills, nature, and a meaningful experience.

Program Details
We usually ask for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week. In return, we provide meals (mainly vegetarian), a place to stay (either a tent or a simple room in the house), and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We work alongside volunteers and are happy to share what we’ve learned—especially about DIY, lime plastering, and rural living. There’s lots of space to relax, explore, and enjoy nature too.
Activities & Shift
Activities:
Tasks include lime plastering, tiling, painting, sanding, basic carpentry, gardening, and clearing paths or brambles. We adapt work to suit your skills and interests.
Shifts:
We usually work 4–5 hours a day, Monday to Friday, with weekends free to relax or explore. Start time is flexible, but we often begin around 9 or 10am and finish by mid-afternoon, with breaks.
Rules
Respect the space
Please treat the house, tools, and surroundings with care. It’s still a work in progress, so a bit of flexibility and a sense of humour help!
Team spirit
We value a positive, can-do attitude. You don’t need to be an expert—just practical, willing to learn, and happy to get involved.
Keep things tidy
We share kitchen, bathroom, and living areas. Everyone helps keep things clean and organised.
Quiet at night
We live in a peaceful rural area. Late-night noise is best kept for weekends or the occasional campfire night.
Be open
This is a shared experience. We encourage openness, curiosity, and cultural exchange—bring your stories and ideas!
