Activities & Shift
The Buddhist Temple is situated in Várzea de Sintra, a village in the countryside of Sintra.
The Temple is very beautiful and inspiring, and every aspect of its architecture and decoration has spiritual significance. It was inaugurated by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso in October 2013
The function of the Temple is to benefit all people by providing the ideal conditions for their spiritual development. Through Buddhist teachings and meditation anyone can reduce their daily problems and develop inner peace and happiness.
The NKT-IKBU, of which this Temple is a part, is an international non-profit organisation that operates entirely through the kindness of its volunteers.Volunteering at our Meditation Center offers a perfect opportunity to experience first hand the Buddhist way of life within a vibrant international community.
Volunteer stays generally start on a Tuesday an least for 10 days, but can be more. If this is not convenient, other possibilities may be possible depending on our availability.
the volunteer makes a commitment to help 6 hours a day, making 30 hours a week. Usually between 09:30 and 18:00 after 5 days helping, the volunteer has 2 rest days, which generally take place on Sundays and Mondays. Volunteers have the right to attend, free of charge, the activities taking place in the Temple as long as they take place outside the previously agreed hours.
Rules
Community Life
We ask that all our volunteers follow some basic principals of living within a Buddhist community, namely;
not to drink alcohol, smoke, or eat meat on the premises.
We also ask you not to play musical instruments, and to use headphones if listening to music.
