The experience

One part of the project involves caring for an old olive garden of about 300 trees. We need help mowing, mulching, harvesting (end of october) and helping with the pruning process (after harvest, in december).

Another part involves reforestation of some wild land, which basically means planting small oak trees and others.

The third part of the project is a botanical medicinal garden that I've only just started and a small vegetable garden.

Program Details

In spring, we plant trees, sow vegetables, create new beds, weed, etc.

In summer, we water trees, cut grass (for fire prevention), harvest and process fruits, prepare wood for the winter.

End of summer (August/September) we harvest almonds, spread them out to dry.

In autumn (october/november), we harvest olives and bring it to the communal press. That's the most intense work but also very interesting and rewarding. Tasting olive oil fresh from the press is an incredible experience. There are alsways 5-10 people harvesting.

In winter, after the harvest, it's time to prune the olive trees and process the branches into wood chips, which are then spread out under the trees or wherever it is needed.
It's also the time to plant new trees (forest and botanical garden).
