What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Tour Guide: Organize and lead tours around the city.

Party Promoter: Help organise and promote parties and social activities.

Bartending: Make and serve drinks and help maintain the beverages inventory.


What you get

2 days off per week

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Spanish

Over 18 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Activities & Shift

Evening Shift (6pm - 10pm)
- Unleash the party animal within
- Host / assist with social events and happy hours

Pre Shift:
Set the bar - Inventory and restocking applying FIFO and LIFO processes
Preparing garnishes - limes, lemons, fruits, etc

During Shift:
Welcoming each and every guest as to create a bond then taking drink order
Mixing / serving drinks
Cash and card handling
Responsible service of alcohol - do not serve intoxicated guests
Continuous cleaning - wiping tables, washing glasses, disposing empty bottles
Handling customer complaints with focus on positive experience
Coordinate your skills and ability in the best area relative to the team

Post Shift:
Cleaning the bar (surfaces, trash, washing tools)
Closing register and placing cash box in safe
Writing down any issues in the night including near accidents
Review notes for improvements and upcoming events
Bar team discussion where you can have a drink and chill out


Note:
The bar can promote tips, this is to be shared across the hostel with 70% going to those working between 6pm and close including those on reception. The remaining is to be split with the hostel and will be used for social events/ rewards/ recognition.


Rules

Customer Service

1.1 Show respect and patience to guests at all times

1.2 Staff may consume three drinks while on shift. Intoxication will result in termination of our partnership. If you feel at risk, you may step away from the bar and replace yourself without penalty.

1.03 Prioritise your safety then all hazards and risks such as spills, broken glass, slippery surfaces, drunk and disorderly, etc


Operations

2.1 Handle cash transactions professionally
-Payment first, product second
-Count and verify cash in front of guest

2.2 Control Inventory and report with excel spreadsheet

2.3 Clean premise on close (chairs, cushions, toilets, floor, glass, etc)

2.4 Open communication - Identify and communicate all issues including lack of confidence or uncertainties. We are problem solving oriented and always look to improve


Hygiene and Dress

3.1 Maintain personal hygiene for clean and welcoming environment.

3.2 Scruff and unkempt stubble is to be shaved every few days to maintain polished and hygienic appearance. Hats and beanies are ok, hair that extends below shoulders is to be tied up

3.3 Dress smart on shift. Always enclosed shoes.
Men:
Collared or button up shirt
Smart shorts (single colour board shorts are ok)
If cold:
Jeans
Any shirt if covered by jumper/jacket - request no hoods
Women:
Equivalent
No: bare chest, sports bras, singlets, overly casual, worn out clothes
Out of shift, volunteers are encouraged to dress casually to illustrate that they have finished shift


Accommodation

4.1 Volunteers dorm access is for volunteers only


Legal
5.1 Absolute zero tolerance for drugs. No Use, Possession, Distribution, Promotion, or Discussion. Strict legal enforcement applies to management, staff, volunteers, and guests.
