The experience

The Sentinel plants and maintains a beautiful garden from which our chef creates nutritious and delicious meals for our registered guests. We are actively seeking a gardener to help create the garden from seed planting to harvest.
The successful volunteer will have previous experience and a love of all things gardening.

25 hours of help per week

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Beginner Spanish

Between 18 and 60 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers


What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

Members of the World Packers roster who have the required experience can look forward to joining an active team of 4-5 people. This position comes with a private room, access to the garden's bounty to eat and a staff area in which to make their own meals (food supplied by The Sentinel) or to enjoy the extra bounty from the Chef during retreat season.


Activities & Shift

The gardener will work 5 days a week 5-6 hours a day, and enjoy two consecutive days off each week. They will work collaboratively with the GM, the Directors and the Chef. This position requires previous experience a healthy body, and a positive disposition.
Shifts will vary each week depending on the schedule of the Centre and needs of the Chef.
It will include, lifting, moving, digging, preparing beds, planting seeds and helping with other landscaping projects when asked.


Rules

We show up on time and check with our manager about the day's tasks. We do not gossip EVER. We work in a collaborative environment and new ideas are welcome.
We leave the shared spaces clean and tidy at all times.
We follow the shared staff agreements. Confidentiality for each other and guests is mandatory. We are responsible for cleaning and maintaining our living space.
