Volunteering at the shelter was a brilliant experience. You get to spend as much quality time with the dogs and cats as you want, the hosts are very inviting and provide you with so much stuff to stay comfortable like plenty of pillows and blankets for the bed and even clothes to wear so that you don't have to worry about any of the dogs messing up the clothes you bring with you. I really learned a lot about properly caring for animals and you can tell that all the people who help out at the shelter are super committed to providing the best care for the animals there.

The shelter was amazing! I met people from all over the world, improved my Spanish, and fell even more in love with the animal cause. I felt that there was a lack of organization in the day-to-day operations, as there wasn't a direct person in charge to guide us. Otherwise, I can't complain, because it changed my life forever!

I had a really great time at the shelter with the sweet animals and amazing volunteers! This experience is surrounded by nature and a little off the grid, which was great for me! Everyone is kind and you can tell they really care for the animals there ❤️ Thank you all!

Not speaking spanish was definitely a challenge, but everyone was really kind and helped me out. It's a great opportunity to give back to animals who need our help, and doing this with volunteers all in the same position, and dedicating their time and resources is amazing to see. It was a beautiful community to be a part of.

I wish i could have stayed longer!! I had so much luck on meeting the amazing group of people with so much support from the hosts, all the love received and transferred to our work with the animals and the nature around us. I enjoyed so much, and I'm going to be forever grateful. The only thing was the problem with the bikes , we only had one bike working for a group of 10 , with only option to wait for locals to maybe give us a lift when they come , but everything is really easy to communicate

I had a great time at the shelter. The work hours were reasonable with the majority consisting of walking outside with the dogs and the rest doing some basic tasks. There always was a nice atmosphere with the other Wordpackers and also the local Volunteers. I never had problems personally with the host but i saw that when problems arose the hosts always tried to resolve them. I would recommend this experience to anyone that likes animals and that wants to spend a lot of time in Nature. I would love to come back one day.

I felt very welcomed and learned to love the dogs and cats immediately! However, I don't recommend going in summer because the heat was almost unbearable (no air-conditioning) and we had to change our working hours due to it :( Additionally, the place is in a super-rual area and the next supermarket and train/bus services are are about 1h away by foot so you had to call a taxi every time you wanted to go somewhere...which adds up pretty quickly. However, if you are fine with all of these things and just would like to try something different from your day-to-day life this is for you!

I had an amazing time at the shelter refuge. It was so rewarding to take care of all the different cats and dogs, while also meeting incredible people from all over the world. I'd love to come back for a day just to be able to take Modesta, Trueno, or Morena on a walk again. However, there were some aspects of my experience that make me hesitate to give 5 stars. Although the hosts were generally very responsive to our needs and issues, water access was pretty inconsistent. Further, the infestation of rats in the bedroom made it difficult for me to sleep.

My experience at the shelter was amazing! The owners and fellow volunteers were so kind and welcoming. It was so much fun to care for the dogs and live in the beautiful mountains.

I couldn't ask for a better first volunteering experience, the shelter was truly amazing and the environment, people and animals made everything feel like home to me! The communication with Jose and Patri was very helpful and it's very noticeable that they have a strong passion for the work in the shelter and the animals which I love! I will surely come back to visit again 🌞
