Program Details
Tivedstorp is an old village located in a glade in the middle of the forest, surrounded by the beautiful and mysterious nature of Tiveden, ”the fairy tale woodland”, with meadows, fresh water and crisp air. Tivedstorp is a hostel with a cafe and kitchen, open from late April to mid-October. It’s a perfect spot for relaxation and recreation, with the National Park of Tiveden right around the corner. We are a small family business, with a staff of up to 10 people, and we host 3-5 Worldpackers at a time.
During the season we need help with various tasks to make everything work. We are happy to be part of Worldpackers and have had countless great experiences over the years. We expect our volunteers to help us out with simple but crucial tasks such as dishwashing in our café, cleaning, recycling, gardening, painting and general maintenance. You are put on a rotating schedule so the days can differ and you get to learn how to make a hostel function. Our café and reception is located in the same building and you will work closely with us and our staff, and be part of our hospitality. Mainly we need help doing dishes, cleaning and recycling and you can also help out with painting, gardening and other outdoor activities. We try to teach you old cultural heritage techniques when possible.
Staying at Tivedstorp gives a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world. . You will stay in a shared dorm with other world packers in a comfortable but fairly simple accommodation, countryside style.
All meals are provided. You work a 6 hour shift (1 hour lunch/dinner break included), 5 days per week. No prior experience is required, we teach you how everything works on site. A positive mindset, "can do attitude" and curiosity are traits we are looking for.
Activities & Shift
Kitchen shift: you take care of the dishwashing in our professional kitchen. This includes collecting dishes, washing them and putting them back where they belong. We have a smooth and fast dishwasher, and it can be a fun and fast-paced shift. You also help the kitchen staff with extra tasks when possible.
Cleaning and recycling: you help our cleaning staff on a daily cleaning round. You empty bins and do the recycling from common areas. You help out with cleaning the hostel rooms and common areas and make sure our trash and recycling bins are moved to the right place when full.
Gardening: mainly digging, weeding, planting and watering garden beds. It can also include lawn mowing, trimming and/or scything.
Painting: you help out with painting our red houses using traditional swedish paint. It can also include painting windows or interior elements.
General maintenance: if you have the skills and interest, we appreciate help repairing and building things around the village.
