The experience

Hi! We are Pablo and Rocío, brother and sister. We live in a rural area near a small town in San Luis, Argentina.
We built Pablo's home using permaculture techniques and now we are looking for volunteers to help us build Roxio's house, with stone and wood as the main materials.
Construction may involve some heavy work so you have to be physically fit for that
We will also love to share our free time chatting, playing games and showing you around

What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Tours: We’ll take you on tours and rides around town. For free!

Free Hiking Tours: We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Requirements

Beginner Spanish or Beginner English

Between 25 and 50 years old

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa

Program Details

Important things about the place:
Our home is 5km away from the center of the town. If you want to go we can lend you a bike (of course if we have to go you can join us)
We use solar energy for electricity and for hot water. We also have a dry toilet.
Wifi is currently unavailable
We're lucky to live in a place with beautiful landscapes, but being close to nature implies coexisting with it: there will always be bugs in the house (ants, spiders, wasps, bees...), it's also very common to find toads and more rarely but possible, snakes. A lot of the vegetation has spikes, so be prepared to leave with a scratch or two.
We also live with two cats (Humberto and Océano) and a dog (Chapati). They are all very friendly

About the meals: we can have dinner together but we will ask you to contribute with something to prepare the meal (sometimes we have dinner with friends and everybody has to bring something)

About the work: we will be building the walls of the house. The bottom part is made of stone. We are working now in the upper part, with wood logs. We need to paint, cut and nail them, as well as restore the door and windows.
Additionally there are other projects we can work on in the house/garden and every idea will be welcomed.
We also have chickens to take care of (they don't require much, though)

And in your free time?
We live close to the river, so that's always a good plan. There are a few nice spots to spend the day.
There are also many options to do trekking, with various levels of difficulty
My brother and I love board games. We have a pretty decent collection and we play almost every day.
If you like dancing and want to learn something traditional, you can take a tango or folklore class in the cultural center.

Activities & Shift

You are going to be working with us, normally 3 or 4 hours a day. Usually work will be done in the morning, but it's flexible depending on the weather or other activities of the day
