The experience

Come help out on our 5 acre farm in stunning central Portugal, whilst staying in a beautiful farmhouse! We're looking for volunteers to help us continue to care for this forest sanctuary, using permaculture principles to grow our own food, make our own wine and renovate and maintain the building.


What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Animal Care: Help look after and take care of animals.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Fast Internet Access: High-speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Portuguese

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Guests will be asked to volunteer for a maximum of 20 hours per week, with shifts varying depending on the time of year/what we are currently working on. In your spare time, you are free to explore the farm and surrounding area. The grounds feature a working vineyard, fruit trees, a vegetable garden, a fish pond and a small stream.

Depending on the numbers at the property at any one time, workawayers will have either a private room or a shared room for 2 people. Private rooms come with ensuite bathrooms.

Shared rooms are split across a ground and mezzanine level, so you will still be afforded some privacy with your own floor. Shared rooms come with one ensuite bathroom shared between 2 workawayers.


Breakfast and a group dinner will be provided, and workawayers will have access to a kitchen to make themselves lunch.


Activities & Shift

Roles for volunteers vary and we will aim to match you up with tasks that interest you. and/or that you have skills in. Activities include:

- Helping out with renovations and DIY projects around the house
- Helping to tend to the vegetable garden
- Helping to feeding and care for the animals - 2 sheep, 10 chickens, a dog and a cat
- Helping to plant trees and bushes
- Helping tend to the vineyard and make wine
- Helping to harvest and preserve fruits and vegetables
- Cooking group meals for our community
