Help us make Mezcal the artisanal way!

I had an amazing time with Jorge and the other travellers in Oaxaca! The work on the farm is hard, and the experience is definitely not for every traveller. 4 days a week are being devoted to hard work at the farm, physically easier work as well as fun activities and visits to different institutions around town. This is not a place to visit if you are looking for accommodation for some hours of farm work but instead a full experience. The three-day-long weekend do however also leave time to go away for weekend trips. All in all it was an incredible experience and I wish I would stay longer!

Jorge is clearly trying hard with his project and his passion for the organization is clear.HOWEVER he and his cohost Ali repeatedly showed a real lack of respect toward volunteers and the community. Example 1)Used old/off flour with fly eggs to prepare crepes for sale to children, ignored volunteers concerns 2) Miscommunication about extra fees for extra nights, despite no prior discussion 3) The non-mandatory 300 peso activity fee led to volunteers being EXCLUDED from farmers dinner invites despite not being part of the paid activities. Also accommodation is pretty bad. We loved the work not the drama

Drama for me is giving a very low rating for things happening to other volunteers who did not want to be part of our volunteer project, also applying for a farming project while being allergic is definitely not professional, but the worst part is to have reposted the comment because the previous one was against the policies and had to be removed, thanks for clarifying, what to do...

Jorge was a very welcoming host, communicated well prior to arrival. The work itself was hard, which was expected as daily tasks were clearly explained beforehand. However, we found that the accommodation didn't meet living standards. Upon arrival we were given a room with water on the floor (due to the leaking ceiling) and intense fugai smell present. Due to the leaks the plaster was falling off the ceiling into the entire bed. When rose the issue, host offered an alternative accommodation, sadly by this point we were set on leaving.

A 2 star review seems exaggeratedly negative for a project that, as you said, tries their best to welcome and communicate effectively with the volunteers.
Hosting a volunteer project is not easy and the heavy rains in Mexico have already largely affected us.
Hence it's very discouraging to see all our efforts being put down only because of the bad situation of the house, which unfortunately was created by something out of our control.

I loved my volunteer as English tutor. I had no previous experience teaching but the kids were super eager to learn so that made my job easier as well. The town is a such a true Mexican town with no other tourist which I loved. I loved being a part of the little community. I would absolutely do this volunteer again.

I enjoyed the time that I spent with Jorge and the other volunteers in Miahuatlán. The work at the farm is hard, even harder than expected🙈, but we had a good compromise between farm days and social work with the community 🤗 Jorge is a great host and a great person. He made us fell at home. My recommendation is that you learn Spanish before coming. Here is the perfect opportunity to practice it! This would be great for you to interact with the local people. It will make tour experience even better! 😁

My girlfriend and I stayed for 4 weeks with the project, and I think it was the choice that I had ever made. We got to know so much from Jorge, and we are really grateful to be part of these big families. If you have the opportunity to do it , then do it because it is truly amazing. Jorge is a man with a big heart ❤️ and you will laugh and have a great time.

Fantastic adventure. If you want to enjoy the real Mexican life this is for you. You can meet a lot of local people maybe becoming also good friends. You are gonna learn a lot about their culture and sip after sip about the organization. Jorge (the host) is really friendly and nice, with a particular attention at the social impact of his activities. The work will be very tough, but after that you will be proud of you.

Loved my experience in Miahuatlan with the organization! Learnt about local life, culture and of course the organization. I truly felt like a part of a family and loved being thrown in the deep end with the local life. Farm days are tough but intrinsically rewarding in the bigger picture because you know you're supporting sustainability of the local region (plus it's not so bad when you're in a team). Made so many memories that I will cherish forever 🥹 Plus Negroni is the most cutest and silliest dog you'll ever fall in love with! Will definitely be coming back again! Gracias para todo Jorge!

The experience with the organization was amazing, I had a lot of fun and learned so much about agave and the organization. I was able to help during all the steps of the production of the organization and it was super interesting, Jorge is really passionate about it and will answer all your questions. Thanks for the nice memories in Miahuatlán!

Jorge was a true gentleman from the moment I met him until the end of the three weeks I volunteered. Jorge has created an ambitious project that he is continuously working to expand and develop, meaning no two weeks are the same. And this project will probably always keep improving. Jorge was a great leader that respected the volunteers privacy and working hours while also ensuring that a team spirit was developed. He is always ready for a chat and he makes sure that the volunteers feel welcome in the community. Jorge also asks volunteers for suggestions for improvement in the house/project.
