Viajeros del Mezcal

We are the first project in Oaxaca State looking forward to preserve agave species, organic farming, and handmade organic Mezcal.
We support the plantations by helping planting, harvesting and specially caring and weeding by hand our fields. Sometimes it's not easy but there is lots to learn.

Because of the help is very physical, we also help the community by supporting other local NGO's, or doing exchanges with schools or students.

I'm Jorge, a Mexican and former volunteer around Serbia, Turkey and Germany. I will welcome volunteers as I have been welcomed in those amazing projects, with open arms and respect. As a host, friend and colleague, I will help you understand and know my country and agaves. Come and experience the real Mexico, real Mezcal, and our cultural heritage.

Jorge is a wonderfull host with a lot of energy and care for his volunteers! He is able to provde all the answers you seeking for regarding Agave and Mezcal production and beyond. Despite it was my first farm work experience, I found all tasks doable but challenging :) thanks to Jorge and other volunteers who were sharing the same motivation it became hard but fun teamwork to be involved. I reccomend if you are going to volunteer ask Jorge which tasks you will perform and prepare yourself menthally and physically ( sleep and proper outfit).

From social impact to thorough knowledge about Mezcal, from connection with Nature to immersion in local culture, from experiencing a wonderful team to living in a non-touristic Mexican city, this is one of my best volunteering experiences if not the best! Work starts early and it is hard but if you are a hard-worker with ideally some experience in the field, be sure that this experience will give you back more than you can imagine in terms of emotions, knowledge and of course, Mezcal. Last but not least, Jorge and Ale are great hosts, extremely helpful and understanding.

Viajeros del mezcal fue una experiencia muy agradable. Las tareas son muy variadas y permiten tener una conexión con la comunidad del pueblo. Jorge es un muy buen lider, casi un voluntario más por lo que entrega esa confianza. Me voy lleno de aprendizaje y experiencias tanto en la elaboración del mezcal como en temas culturales y sociales de Miahuatlán. Sin dudas una experiencia que no olvidaré nunca.

Great Experience at Viajeros de Mezcal!

Volunteering here was amazing! The team is super welcoming, the tasks are well-organized, and there’s plenty of time to explore. The vibe is always fun, with great people, and mezcal !! Highly recommend it to any traveler!

Surely one of the best experiences I have ever had and an admirable project led by Jorge! I can only recommend Viajeros del Mezcal, the work on the farm can be intense but you know why you do it! If you want to be close to the locals and know Mexico, go for it! A volunteering that makes sense! The city of Miahuatlan is not big but it has everything you need for a great stay! You can also easily travel during your free days. Thanks again, I hope to come back one day!
